The Creative Explorer Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 It took me about 8 years to find one for a "reasonable" price, even the reasonable wasn't that reasonable, but with seeing the prices all over the world, I got it fairly decent. Which one? Well, it is the 1/12 Tamiya Caterham Super Seven BDR! Picture stolen from the internets I am so pleased with it, it has such nice details and custom parts for it, little brackets, springs, it doesn't end. It is just so nice. For me as a modelkit enthusiast, the kit is very nice addition for it's technical aspect. They really knew what they were doing at Tamiya. It only contains 3 or 4 plastic sprues, the rest is metal. If there is a desire, I can post a in box review.
1930fordpickup Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Nothing beats finding a the grail . Now on to finding the new grail.
Nova-ss Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 wow!...now that is a grail.I have one in storage.amazing kit and fun to build..enjoy it.....Chris
Roncla Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 I've always hoped Tamiya will reissue that one. i shouldn't have dithered about buying it back in the day.
disabled modeler Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 That is awesome Erik....glad you finally found you one.
Crazy Ed Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Well Done Eric. Waiting until the Price of a Grail is at what one considers "comfortable" is the only thing that will (hopefully) keep prices in check. Glad you got your Chalice.
Greg Myers Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 But then there is always supply and demand.
tbill Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 congrat's on getting 'the one', is it done yet?
Twokidsnosleep Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Good for you on finding her, that is a cool feelingLove to see what is in the box, most of us will probably never see a kit like that
MrObsessive Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 I had that kit once upon a time. It was the cycle fendered version with all of the aftermarket stuff to make it superdetailed. Unfortunately, about 5-6 years ago I had to let it go due to some financial issues because of a work related injury. I did get a pretty penny for it though back then------I'd sure like to find another one though! Congrats on finding it! I see them on the 'Bay all of the time, but I'm just not of the mind to spend $400-$500 on one.................yet!
DumpyDan Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 That great, Steve got me one of my holy grails today in Ottawa, ON. What a geat day it is.
CometMan Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Congrats on finding your piece at YOUR price Steve! That is an awesome feeling.
vintagercr Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Congratulations! I'm still searching for the MPC Chrysler Hydro Vee boat with electric outboard motor. I had one in 1968. Also the Fujimi Porsche 356A Coupe. I have bid on a couple of the Porsches but out of my price range. There are lots of the "B". I have a few speedster and could cut the front end off and switch it up.

The Creative Explorer Posted December 27, 2015 Author Posted December 27, 2015 Nothing beats finding a the grail . Now on to finding the new grail. Well, there is the 1/12 Model Factory Hiro Ferrari 250GTO, but that is out of my league. I think it retails at 7-800 I've always hoped Tamiya will reissue that one. i shouldn't have dithered about buying it back in the day. Me too, but I am affraid that the reissue will have more plastic and less metal, but I am hoping with you. Well Done Eric. Waiting until the Price of a Grail is at what one considers "comfortable" is the only thing that will (hopefully) keep prices in check. Glad you got your Chalice Waiting on the price wasn't even the major thing, I think it was the first time in 6 years I've seen one presented on the Dutch local adsite. congrat's on getting 'the one', is it done yet? I don't think it will be for a few years, I first need to grow the confidence to screw up a expensive modelkit haha Good for you on finding her, that is a cool feeling Love to see what is in the box, most of us will probably never see a kit like that Sure, no problem. Will do that today or tomorrow. I had that kit once upon a time. It was the cycle fendered version with all of the aftermarket stuff to make it superdetailed. Unfortunately, about 5-6 years ago I had to let it go due to some financial issues because of a work related injury. I see them on the 'Bay all of the time, but I'm just not of the mind to spend $400-$500 on one.................yet! I paid 275 euro's for it, I think it evens at 300 dollars. It wasn't cheap, but I do believe that if Tamiya ought to rerelease it, it would cost about the same at least. Congratulations! I'm still searching for the MPC Chrysler Hydro Vee boat with electric outboard motor. I had one in 1968. Also the Fujimi Porsche 356A Coupe. The Creative Explorer Posted December 27, 2015 Author Posted December 27, 2015 Good for you on finding her, that is a cool feelingLove to see what is in the box, most of us will probably never see a kit like thatDone, I posted it in the car kit reviews and news section, I added a link to the topic: Caterham in box review
fumi Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 I paid 275 euro's for it, I think it evens at 300 dollars. It wasn't cheap, but I do believe that if Tamiya ought to rerelease it, it would cost about the same at least. That's a very good price. I haven't seen the clamshell fender version for a long time, and the cycle fender version retailed for that much a few years back when Tamiya seemed to have made a run of reissue.
The Creative Explorer Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 Well, I've been looking for the Caterham for 8 years and found finally one, one month later I am able to add the second :-) me happy.
