crazyrichard Posted April 9, 2016 Author Posted April 9, 2016 today taking my time i cut 5 pieces out of cloth tape and apostered the center of the hood earea , making it look like the heat reflective woll like stuff ... could have done sort of amu look but that didnt look nice and was too contrasting .. great effect with the black , the wheel opening edges are still orange really pops now dark inside and now the carb and details on the top of the engine pop seen through the scoop
crazyrichard Posted April 9, 2016 Author Posted April 9, 2016 also made the panellines black , used black waterbased paint for that inside where the taillights go in are painted black
crazyrichard Posted April 9, 2016 Author Posted April 9, 2016 went on ... painted the tailhouses black , to much flash and stuff on them , sticking them on double sided tape i hope will result in the rings staying chrome , reflectors also sprayed the lenses with clear gloss after cleaning up the edges decided to use the kit's gass cap instead of the self made cap , it does look killer recessed rather then stock on top of the wing black insides where the tails go and a silver painted keylock for the trunk
Canso65 Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 I like the choice of colour you have gone with this Richard. Great work!
crazyrichard Posted April 9, 2016 Author Posted April 9, 2016 thnx rob ! i painted the inside black the rainwater grille drip thing .. needs to be orange with openings or in this case back in there ...but the orange was a bit light there after clear and washing the black in looked bad ... so i know its not suppose to be like this but i masked it and painted the whole thing black
crazyrichard Posted April 9, 2016 Author Posted April 9, 2016 last update today , productive saturday the lighthousings turned out great , black house and chrome ring glued in place lenses in , those where just glued with micro krystal klear , so that waas white needs to turn clear still
Ridge Rider Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 This is some great work Richard. I am really liking how it is turning out.
crazyrichard Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 thnx guys ! .. well nobody mentioned bmf ? .. i forgot to buy bmf when i got the paint .. at this stage i'm in doubt .. if i dare to clear coat that body one more time ..i would have to order bmf and after aplying clear coat again .. bmf without clearcoat isnt wise.. again nobody asked about the painted chrome .. i kind of like the orange color moldings ... makes it almost look lower and sleeker ? what are your opinions on that ?? i sprayed the windows with clear coat last night , not tamiya clear but my usual local diy market can .. sprayed clear on both sides to really make them shine .. also will help spicing them up because however they fit they dont fit perfect , again its not the chargers glass .. but altered windows from a dont know what out of the partsbox
crazyrichard Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 well decided to go for it and masked the moldings .. went black ... i thought this would fit the theme and looks better then chrome moldings and man i'm happy it looks killer !!! aplied it by hand with a brush and waterbased black
crazyrichard Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 windows are in .. now note these are "foreign" windows non charger ... they fit 90% rear window is the rer glass of a ferrari , front glass i dont know came out of my partsbox .. it curves just a hair to soon at the top but its not bad ... again they got clearcoated front and back and man they are shiney .. cant get it on the picture exactly but they shine like crazy
bobthehobbyguy Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Those black moldings really pop. Looking forward to seeing this finished.
crazyrichard Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 thnx bob ! , bmf would hae looked nice but i think it would have been more distracting and not blend as well with the orange and black theme ... now i will have some small chrome details , rims , taillightrings , maybe the wiper arms ...i have 2 chrome r/t logos for the rer quarters .. just subtile
Dann Tier Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 thnx bob ! , bmf would hae looked nice but i think it would have been more distracting and not blend as well with the orange and black theme ... now i will have some small chrome details , rims , taillightrings , maybe the wiper arms ...i have 2 chrome r/t logos for the rer quarters .. just subtile I agree with you, the chrome trim woulda looked outta place on this car. the black window trim has a nice "up dated" look. leaving them orange woulda worked as well. sometimes I leave window trim the color of the body (Eurostyle) myself. Great work!, cant wait to see it done!!
mrm Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Looks killer! If you don't mind me asking, what exactly did you spray the windows with? Can you show us a picture of the can?
Kit Basher Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 It looks fantastic, Richard. I really like the "chromeless" look on this car. I think all your decisions have been just right.
crazyrichard Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 Looks killer! If you don't mind me asking, what exactly did you spray the windows with? Can you show us a picture of the can? i can make a pic .. but i think you wont be able to but it .. its a local dutch diy market own brand rattle can .. i think you can use any clear coat to spray your windows .. its makes them more clear and wayy wayy more shiney .. also hides small scratches .. just try it on a old window you might have like in the spare parts box Gorgeous Richard... thnx ! It looks fantastic, Richard. I really like the "chromeless" look on this car. I think all your decisions have been just right. thnx ! lots of setbacks ... after a ton of dryfitting now with the body on the flip front sat too low ... i had to alter the hinge position and saw of those pins .. nw i need to make new pins in a totally different way .. due to the hinge position i now can just open the flip front like its wat tighter now .. still works though .. got small crack in the lower rear part of the body , a seem where i worked in the bumper .. not real obious .. but in the end overall there are a lot of imperfections that might not show on the pictures .. learned a lot on this one about building glossy and tigh .. between thiss and the cobra .. i think my next gloss build should be better and easyer ... although i must admit i crave for a weathered build now so some loose and rough set up pics of the body on not fixed yet , flip front semi correctly placed .. getting there
bobthehobbyguy Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Nice work. Model building is a constant learning process. Every time you try new things you find things that work and don't work.Still this charger is a beauty. Lots of subtle changes.
crazyrichard Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 thnx bob .. btw looking at some pics i would wnder how a charger would look with a shortened rear end ../ less long booth ... could be cool ? maybe one day
Slomoslam Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 The black trim is perfect, you just keep crushing it on this thing man. I love the way you get things done, you don't let anything hang you up. Now lets get this thing finished so I can get on with my life!!
crazyrichard Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 haha thnx .. well last stuff will probl happen this weekend .. at this point i have a general idea to make new fixings to hold the front tight and the last small details ..bit tired and busy at work .. so i think i will do it saturday .. better of feeling fresh
crazyrichard Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 just added the wipers , the kit wipers never fit nice they sit on the closed circles , i know this from a previous charger build .. i knw the wiper arms actually hit the trim .. now i redid all the trim and made it out of brass and thats a tad thicker as the kit trim .. so i drilled holes before paint for wiper shafts (is that how yo call them ??) no i altered the wipers , cut a piece of the arm and made a hollow shape in the ends alowing me to glue in a steel pin with round head , then make it one and paint it satin black . so now the wipers really have shafts going in and through the hole .. a few raandom pics with my logo most pics show the paint either metalic (with sun) or real flat in normal light , you really ave to put something beside it to show its got reflection (on pictures)
bobthehobbyguy Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 The wipers look great. Its amazing how those little touches make such a big difference in the finished model.
