Been looking forward to building a large scale truck and this seemed like the right excuse to buy one finally. I have a period correct paint scheme planned for it, other than that I'll just wing it and hope I don't embarrass myself!

This will be the third tractor I've ever built. The first was a Ford Aeromax and then a shortened Diamond Reo. I like building "odd" scales though, should be fun.

      Travis,

Interesting choice ,  the larger scale. leaves a lot of room for detailing.

Looking forward to seeing your paint colors and scheme.

I had hoped to actually get started on it this past weekend but I am dealing with some health issues right now and will be for the next little while probably. I have promised myself that next Sunday is a day off so I hope to get lots of prep and assembly work done then. I do want to extensively detail this one which is why I picked the larger scale.

Travis...That is exactly why I want to try a large scale truck once I can get one...I like your choice.  Me id want to see just how much detail I can add to one. Not being around big trucks in the last 20 years it might be fun to get it right for me.  You will do awesome on it.

Not a very exciting update at this time. Spent a few hours gluing subassemblies together and sanding seams. Typical Monogram kit of the time, most things fit well, but I always cut the locating pins off and sand the mating surfaces flat anyway. My wife has me rethinking the colors I was going to paint it, I just need to buy a few colors and do some spray outs to look at. Too cold to paint anytime soon anyway so I have plenty of time to decide.

I'm just figuring out I know very little about chassis detail on these trucks! If it was a sixties or eighties Mustang I'd be golden. Good thing my neighbor has his own W900, if I can catch him at home I should have some good reference material. It's much newer of course but I doubt the big stuff is much different?

Now I don't know whether to thank you or cuss you Jim! I said something to my wife about not opening the doors on this one even though others are and she said what, you don't want to win? Then I see that detail of the air ride for the seat in those attachments, ugh! I have to remember I actually want to finish this one, I haven't actually finished a kit in 20+ years. The contest was supposed to be motivation to get this one done!

I think the air ride seats are more for the 1/16 Peterbilt 359 that has opening doors already.  I don't know what sort of visibility you'll have in the W900 cab if you don't cut the doors open, so maybe you could skip that one. :P

You'll be fine, either way.....I've got my mind set on getting one of these things on the shelf, as well.....Nice work, so far.....You should have sent "Mama" to the mall, better yet, Walmart.....I don't ask my wife for any help on paint....It's gonna be orange, and that's that.....

It will be cool either way, Travis. Both the best and worst part of any contest build, is pushing yourself to get to that contest level in your mind's standards.
Win or lose, doing something you have never done before is a victory in itself.

JT, what makes that funny, is you make that really work, each and every time.

Color is always hard to pick for me and she has a good eye for what does and doesn't coordinate. I tend to paint everything in blues, grays or blacks, after looking at some trucks online I may change it yet again!

The frame and sleeper tried my patience this weekend, almost reminded me why this will be only the third truck I have finished! I was surprised at the two cross member halves, they have no positive way to attach together so I just installed the halves with the locating pins and will go back and install the other halves once everything else is glued into place.
