JTalmage Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I thought this might be a fun thread. How many Hot Rod Magazine-licensed kits existed? I know some of them are pretty basic kits and not all that well casted but fun kits in my opinion... even though most of em had those 2 piece tires haha!I can think of a few:Mustang II Cobra Street machineMonza street machine'69 Mustang Cobra Jet26 Touring TWilly's pickup What else existed?

High octane Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 What do you mean by "hot rod," as according to the National Street Rod Assoc. a hot rod is a 1948 and earlier car?
JTalmage Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 The Hot Rod-licensed series Which apparently I forgot to list my own '54 Chevy in my original post. lol
JTalmage Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Well heck. Back in 2012. I would have never found it LOL
vintagedragcrazy Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 41 willys was just a swc kit but put out as hot rod series too.vince
62rebel Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 most, if not all, of these kits are reissues of iconic and desirable versions, like the Orange Crate, seldom seen in it's original version until lately. The Monroe Handler Mustang II, once a mail-order only item, saw light again due to this series, albeit with some rather lame '80's era decals throughout the line and deletion or alterations to many parts like wheels.... The Stone, Woods and Cook Willys has had several iterations over the years, although I don't think Revell ever changed anything IN the kit, except not including the SWC decals.... this series also included many fairly NEW kits in "new clothes", and some that were rather lackluster offerings yet padded out the "Hot Rod" line..

vintagedragcrazy Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 That's amazing how many there are once you start thinking about them I forgot about the first pic of the three old fords and had it in my hands on Monday and the willys today.vince
gray07 Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 I think I asked about these a few years ago and the happydays cars, but iam pretty sure I have the Austin , was going to try and get all of them, but no time
JTalmage Posted January 6, 2016 Author Posted January 6, 2016 I also have this oddball thing that looks exactly a Hot Rod series kit... but it's a double kit... same wording and everything except the hot rod logo.
62rebel Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 wow, seems like Revell ran their entire inventory through that line... not a bad idea, it traps collectors into buying ALL the THINGS. Has that '56 Chevy been issued since then? it was one of my first few models, I had the one with the full custom interior option, if there were alternates I never saw them.
Phirewriter Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 There was also a 1/16 Grand Am funny car from the Hot Rod series, the Revelleader I believe.
