I also thought no one else had thought of it.

I think there is a resin body available!

I will be using the much maligned AMT AWB chassis

perhaps a blown W-block

the front facia is off because I am opening the hood.

Fun project. I did one several years ago using a Rat Packer chassis. I did not move the front fenders however. Looking forward to your progress. Good luck !

I want to do an AWB 289 COBRA too.

Oh no you don't ! : )  That would be all kinds of wrong  ! : ) Not sure you could modify that short wheelbase without putting the rear tires in the interior. Maybe a gasser but I'm not sure how you would do an AWB Cobra. More power to you if you can.

I like the idea of altering the wheelbase on a Corvair. You would essentially be building a Funny Car body.

A Cobra? Not much of a reason to a.w.b. one of those. Wheelbase is pretty much optimal for drag racing. You could move the front wheels out in front of the body and mount it on a dragster chassis. Hmmmmm

If you move the rear wheels up on a Cobra, where is the driver going to sit?

Now I think I should have moved the rear axle up further!!!

It looks good but I think your rear wheel wells are little too small.  I would move only the forward edge towards the front.  This will make your rear axle look more forward and give the rear tire better clearance

Never saw a Corvair funny with that stance, but have seen some Chevy IIs that weren't far off.

If you look at enough pictures of first-gen funnies--and there were DOZENS of the things, if not hundreds--you'll eventually see almost anything and everything. It was truly a time of "anything goes." So, model on! B)
