geemoney Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 so I thought this would be cool. I also thought no one else had thought of it. of course that was not true! I think there is a resin body available! oh well.
geemoney Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 I will be using the much maligned AMT AWB chassisperhaps a blown W-blockthe front facia is off because I am opening the hood.more soon
cobraman Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Fun project. I did one several years ago using a Rat Packer chassis. I did not move the front fenders however. Looking forward to your progress. Good luck !

louie Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Way cool, way cool. Also like the AWB 289 Cobra idea. Good stuff. Thank you. Jeff
cobraman Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 I want to do an AWB 289 COBRA too.Oh no you don't ! : ) That would be all kinds of wrong ! : ) Not sure you could modify that short wheelbase without putting the rear tires in the interior. Maybe a gasser but I'm not sure how you would do an AWB Cobra. More power to you if you can.
Snake45 Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 I want to do an AWB 289 COBRA too.If you move the rear wheels up on a Cobra, where is the driver going to sit?
6bblbird Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 I want to do an AWB 289 COBRA too. I like the idea of altering the wheelbase on a Corvair. You would essentially be building a Funny Car body. A Cobra? Not much of a reason to a.w.b. one of those. Wheelbase is pretty much optimal for drag racing. You could move the front wheels out in front of the body and mount it on a dragster chassis. Hmmmmm
geemoney Posted January 12, 2016 Author Posted January 12, 2016 If you move the rear wheels up on a Cobra, where is the driver going to sit? true, I did not say it was not with out its complications ! LOL
geemoney Posted March 21, 2016 Author Posted March 21, 2016 ok, progress! I got the wheel openings back in, started filling the gaps added shackles and u-bolts to the leaf springs cut open the hood. thinkin bout a crower/hilborn/pete Jackson style stack injected Mark I bib block.
geemoney Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 Now I think I should have moved the rear axle up further!!!
afx Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Now I think I should have moved the rear axle up further!!!It looks good but I think your rear wheel wells are little too small. I would move only the forward edge towards the front. This will make your rear axle look more forward and give the rear tire better clearance
geemoney Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 Thanks for the comment!i was thinkin the same thing, I might radius them a bit!
AC Norton Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Got the stance tell ya one thing, Mike,,,when finished, its gonna be as neat as hell......love it...the Ace.....
Snake45 Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Never saw a Corvair funny with that stance, but have seen some Chevy IIs that weren't far off. If you look at enough pictures of first-gen funnies--and there were DOZENS of the things, if not hundreds--you'll eventually see almost anything and everything. It was truly a time of "anything goes." So, model on!
