CelticModeler Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) So began my next build the other day. Started AMT chevy 3100 pickup. Decidied to do a semi-custom setup with it. Have a 383 stroker motor i put in it. Also using wheels from my 57 chevy kit and was planning to mount them backwards. I like the deep dish look to it. Did some slight modifications to the suspension to lower it a bit and also had to make a bigger tunnel for the tranny. Painting it a custom cooper orange pearl with silver flake and interior is a light tanish honey color. Like how its coming out so far but will have to stay tuned for the final assembly. Let me know what you guys think of the work so far. This will be my first model i have airbrushed and third model ive made. Edited March 25, 2016 by CelticModeler
CelticModeler Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 Thanks. Got a little frustrating fitting the motor in this body. Unfortunately i cant run a fan because theres nkt enough room. Other than that im ok/happy with the rest of my work. Have some small spots of fish eye on the paint so gotta let it sit for a few days to harden then sand and buff it and begin final assembly.
mod3l Lover Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I like it very much! The motor looks sharp. David S.
CelticModeler Posted March 21, 2016 Author Posted March 21, 2016 NEED HELP!!!!! Didnt let my clear coat harden enough before polishing so i went thru back down to primer.... So i had to resand everything and reprime. Now one of my fenders keeps wrinckling. It has done it twice now. What could be causing it? I have done the same thing with everything and this is the only one that seems to happen to. This is one of my favorite trucks and have been wanting to finish it for some time but its really starting to get on my nerves.250s
Belugawrx Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 (edited) Oh well,..it needs a full stripping,..I think,..just the one fender ?Man that orange was looking sweet, didn't need any polishing,..at allGood luck Edited March 22, 2016 by Belugawrx
CelticModeler Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 Lol thanks. It had alot of spots in it and yes just that one fender. Im going to try my best to paint it the same color. It was a one off color i mixed and sprayed. Have some left hope it is enough. Might be a couple shades different but should be close.
MrBuick Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Looks like it's coming along nicely. What'd you do for the wooden bed...is it just brown sharpie or did you paint?
CelticModeler Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 Thanks. I used two different shades of brown. Applied dark coat all over it then lighter coat on top once the dark coat was dry. Then wiped off the high pots with a Q tip. Was just messing around and ended up coming out nicely first shot. Then just went in with chrome silver and painted the strips by hand then finally cleared it.Looks like it's coming along nicely. What'd you do for the wooden bed...is it just brown sharpie or did you paint?
gatorincebu Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 (edited) Hmmmm ! I am liking what I see here . There is nothing wrong with your modeling skills ,that is for sure. That paint looked great. Too bad it didn't work out for you. As for the crazing paint .I would strip it all the way down, Then scrub it with a toothbrush with some scouring powder. Then wash well in warm soapy water and rinse well. That should do the trick, I like what you did to the bed of the truck. Good luck with the fender repainting. CelticModeler Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 Like to hear others saying im doing a good job and the paint was good before lol. This is the first model i have built since i was probably 13 and first one i have airbrushed. Im going to work on this more tomorrow. Hopefully will come out better with primer this time and can do another decent paint job. Will wait longer till i polish it this time tho.
CelticModeler Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 So did a little bit this morning. Decided to add some styrene trim to the seat since i was going to change the color a bit. Also started stripping the fender with brake fluid back down to base and finally sprayed the custom base coat on the rest of the truck. Think this color would be nice too on another build. Its a goldish cooper look with metal flake in it. Was going to start spraying top color but wanted to wait till i had all my pieces in base so i can make sure they all get the same shade. Will hopefully get top color on tonight and clear tomorrow.
CelticModeler Posted March 24, 2016 Author Posted March 24, 2016 So sprayed top coat tonight and will spray clear in the morning. Copperhead is back on track. Got the color almost 100% martch with some small changes this time and think itll pop even more now. Well have to see when the clear is done.
CelticModeler Posted March 24, 2016 Author Posted March 24, 2016 Sprayed clear this morning and did a rough mock up to see what copper head is going to look like and i have to say im digging it. Now i have a tough decision. Not sure if i should leave all the chrome alone or tint it so its a dark grey\charcoal. I think the grey and copper orange would look nice but then again the chrome looks nice too
GTJUNIOR Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I would go with the tinted chrome. It's different and will look really good with the copper tone of your paint job.
CelticModeler Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 So one step closer to having this thing finished. Installed the interior motor and rough mocked up the newly tinted wheels and grill. Like the way it looks. Was goin3g to BMF it but think im going to leave this one alone.
Olskoolrodder Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I'm loving this! Perfect stance, great color...
CelticModeler Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 So the finished product. Had fun building this but was a PITA the whole time so glad its done.
TarheelRick Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Sweet pickup, love that color and the title fits it well. Nice, clean overall build.
CelticModeler Posted March 30, 2016 Author Posted March 30, 2016 Thanks guys. Love the way it came out but was deffinitely a headache throughout most of the build.
