cobraman Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Time to build another Cobra. This time a large one. I built one years ago when this kit first came out but it was destroyed. Have 3 in my Cobra "stash" but when I saw this one with the beat up box but complete and sealed inside I jumped on the low price. So far I have only stripped some chrome. Going to try for a more sinister look.
GTJUNIOR Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Sinister, sounds interesting. I look forward to seeing how it goes.
Timonator Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Had this one as a kid and have another in my stash. Can't wait to see what you do with it. .
Twokidsnosleep Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Me too, looking forward to see this come together, have it deep in my stash
cobraman Posted March 31, 2016 Author Posted March 31, 2016 Moving a little forward with this kit. Body took some attention to remove mold lines and a couple dings in the hood. Body is primed and some parts painted. I made a distributor but it leaves a lot to be desired. It does kinda look like a distributor. : ) Deciding between 2 body colors at the moment. I am leaning towards not putting stripes on . I also made a roll bar as the one in the kit is kind of wimpy. It also is not the best scratch building but I tried.
wayne swayze Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Never worked in this scale before, but should consider it at my age with diminishing eyesight. I'll be watching this build Ray.
cobraman Posted April 3, 2016 Author Posted April 3, 2016 Making more progress on this one. The body of this kit is pretty bad. Lots a bumps on the doors and trunk and hood. Lots of mold lines on the body. I spent a lot of time sanding and when I primed it looked pretty good. Once I shot the darker color ( root beer ) things I did not get quite right appeared. Oh well, not doing it over. Body still needs to be cleared. There are black fender stripes on drivers side. Engine close to being done. Interior is ivory with black flocking for carpet. Kit fits good together so far.
cobraman Posted April 4, 2016 Author Posted April 4, 2016 Got the chassis just about finished. Hopefully my scratch built distributor isn't too funky looking. I also made a support for the alternator.( not yet installed ).
cobraman Posted April 8, 2016 Author Posted April 8, 2016 Thanks Bob. I never used this color before but I really like it.
majel Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 It's looking really good Ray. That is going to be my next large scale build so I'm curious as to how the parts fit is, and how well it goes together.
cobraman Posted April 8, 2016 Author Posted April 8, 2016 Thank you guys. Jim , so far the fit has been fine but as I said the body needs a lot of work to get rid of mold lines and other imperfections. Mostly the hood and doors.
bogger44 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I like those colors choices. It's looking good, Ray. I've got one of these to build someday, too.
