blunc Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I'd drill out the ends of the air cleaner inlets...but that's just me
CelticModeler Posted April 2, 2016 Author Posted April 2, 2016 Thats actually a pretty good idea. Didnt think about it much but im going to give it a try I'd drill out the ends of the air cleaner inlets...but that's just me
DrKerry Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 What about running duct work from air cleaner to front air dam?? Kind of a ram air effect?
DrKerry Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 (edited) Just an idea . Edited April 2, 2016 by DrKerry
CelticModeler Posted April 2, 2016 Author Posted April 2, 2016 Idk what id use for said duct work. Also think it would clutter up the engine bay too much
CelticModeler Posted April 2, 2016 Author Posted April 2, 2016 (edited) Ughhhh so i was all excited to try out my new home decal paper. I was planning on making the 396 decal that is on the air cleaner as well as the turbo jet decal. I resized it and printed it on test paper first. And sure enough the decal became smudged and illegible. I feared that would happen but was hopeful it would work. Well i guess it is staying just the solid color with no decal on it. Shardik Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 (edited) Mack, When making your own decals, you need to clear coat them before handling them. Micro Mark makes a product specifically for this but any spray can clear will work as long as you use light mist coats to build it up; too heavy and the ink will run and puddle. CelticModeler Posted April 4, 2016 Author Posted April 4, 2016 Ya i know they need to be cleared. Didnt even get that far. I printed these on printer paper just to check sizing and it printed that muddy. Wasnt going to print them on the decal paper and risk wasting that space. Ive seen others print small decal like this but must be my printer i guess. Only thing i can think of
Belugawrx Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 decal sheet is alot different from paper, paper being porous,..say it with me,...so the ink tends to migrate,...just sayin'
Dann Tier Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I'd drill out the ends of the air cleaner inlets...but that's just me That's my favorite way too!
mademan Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 for the duct work, use styrene get some fine wire and wrap it, and put heat shrink tubing over it...... use the finest wire you can get. should look pretty convincing.
CelticModeler Posted April 4, 2016 Author Posted April 4, 2016 So just to say i tried it i printed the images on the decal paper because it is less "porrous" however the images were still say it with me now "muddy" decal sheet is alot different from paper, paper being porous,..say it with me,...so the ink tends to migrate,...just sayin'
MrBuick Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I'm not expert on decal printing, as I've never tried it myself, but the IT guy in me recommends you check the DPI settings on the printer. Many printers have an ink saving feature that lowers the overall print quality in favor of using less ink, so just because it's advertised as a 1200 (or whatever) DPI printer doesn't necessarily mean it prints that highly without being told to do so. Check the settings and set it to the highest resolution possible and see if that doesn't help. Of course, if it's an older printer, it may just not be capable of printing in that fine of detail.
CelticModeler Posted April 4, 2016 Author Posted April 4, 2016 I will look into that. Printer is barely a year old however it was a cheap 50 dollar one from walmart i believe. Just bought it so my fiance could print her school work. Never had the intensions of doing high quality stuff like this. I dont think bigger decals will be an issue but small fine detailed stuff like this might be outI'm not expert on decal printing, as I've never tried it myself, but the IT guy in me recommends you check the DPI settings on the printer. CelticModeler Posted April 7, 2016 Author Posted April 7, 2016 Small update. Wheels are in tested them with the car. Like the way they look. Rear wheels are a bit big but will work once i modify the chassis a bit and get the body to sit a bit better. Overall i do like them tho and once they are painted i think theyll look killer. Scale wise they are roughly 24in in the rear and 20in in the front. Little bigger than i was going for but these are the design i was looking for with the right lip so im good with them. Let me know what u guys think. Are they too big?
djflyer Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 (edited) I'm kinda thinking the backs are a bit tall. If you go back to the photo (and what seems to be the pro-tour layout) the wheels are almost always same height but really WIDE in the back.BTW - dont know if you've given up on the decals but some printers have ink specified for photo-quality printing. That may be what you need for the decals. Edited April 8, 2016 by djflyer missing information
