Nova-ss Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 hi all, I have this kit.its has nothing wrong except the body was cracked bably along the right fender to the cowl and they [who owned it before me] glued it way off.so question, what other kits was this exact body used in? thank you....Chris
espo Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 If you are not going to use the kit for parts, then one repair others have used on damaged bodies involves putting the body in a baggie and leaving it in the freezer. This is used to get the glue to release the glued parts. I've never tried it but there are many here who use it with great success.
Fat Brian Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 That kit was recently reissued as an AMT offering, the car on the front is exactly the same but the box background is black at the top and red toward the bottom.
Jhedir6 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I've had luck in the past with Super Clean weakening old glue joints. Can you post a pic of what the body looks like. with the glue on it? As long as its not a "glue bomb" but a relatively minimal amount SC might weaken the glue enough to break it apart to do a proper repair.David
Rob Hall Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 IIRC the MPC '71-73 is due to be reissued this year.
Nova-ss Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 well thank you,I appreciate tge info..especially the reissue info.I will post a picture of the body.the kits was never built or glued.it just had a bad break that someone tried to fix and didn't line it up right then must have sanded it...cause it not well fixed...I guess repaired is the better way to say it.Its complete.just body was problems.but I want to find just a body.every ebay listing I find is for a whoke unstarted kit.I was looking for a body that parts or left over from a project.been looking for about 5 years on ebay..I haven't seen any that I know of so I thought maybe it was released in a different version...I probably wouldn't know but some of mite know.so if amt released it what was it called...a picture maybe...please....Chris

Rob Hall Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 More info on this please.it was listed in one of the threads here a while back. It's been about 15 years since the MPC one was reissued
unclescott58 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 it was listed in one of the threads here a while back. It's been about 15 years since the MPC one was reissued Tell me more. What are they planning on releasing? If you know?
Rob Hall Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 I have no details. Just saw the MPC '73 listed as an upcoming release in another thread on the MCM forums. I assume it will be the same old same old with retro box art. Same old tooling.
slusher Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Will this work being a 73? Reissued not long ago.. http://www.modelroundup.com/product-p/amt-r2-896.htm
Nova-ss Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 I wished I knew if it works or not. I don't have very many mustang kits and the 351 is the only mustang I have from those years..maybe someone reading this knows.I may have to buy one just to find out...thank you.
Snake45 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Will this work being a 73? Reissued not long ago.. http://www.modelroundup.com/product-p/amt-r2-896.htmI've read numerous posts here and elsewhere that it's no longer an accurate model of anything, but I'm not sharp enough on this genre of Mustang to competently comment. Supposedly a couple little tweaks and you can get close to something or other. Would be nice to see someone do an accurizing tutorial on this kit, as far as what needs fixing and how.
Rob Hall Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Will this work being a 73? Reissued not long ago.. http://www.modelroundup.com/product-p/amt-r2-896.htmThat's the AMT '73. Different tooling, builds only as a race car.
Fat Brian Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 (edited) This one is supposed to be a reissue of the Boss 351 that actually has a 429 in it. Edited April 13, 2016 by Fat Brian
slusher Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Chris here is a build one at a good price you could take apart... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-AMT-71-Mustang-Mach-1-model-kit-/272206838017?hash=item3f60cab901:g:5ZoAAOSwJQdXCbDp

Fat Brian Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Yes, that was the MPC tool, but released with an AMT label. The weakest parts of the MPC tool are the engines and chassis...Yep, the guts are a little weak but the body will be the same.
Rob Hall Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Here's a thread on the MPC '73.. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/112705-125-mpc-73-mustang/
