StevenGuthmiller Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Just thought I'd share a quick ebay story. Not more than 3 or 4 days ago & put in a bid on a vintage AMT 1963 Pontiac Bonneville rear bumper. As usual, several guys swooped in at the last second & snatched it up, but at a price! That one piece sold for $30.00! Way more than I was willing to pay. A few minutes ago, an ebay parts seller that I've dealt with many times had the bumper & the chrome trunk panel with a buy it now price of $12.95. Still a bit high for some, but right in my range. I love it when you get the same part the same week for less than half the price! Steve
Mike999 Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Congratulations! It is great when that happens. You just never know with eBay, and I've been buying/selling there for many years. I recently forgot and didn't bid on a kit I was watching. This particular kit usually goes for $75-$100 (ERTL Massey-Ferguson 1155 farm tractor). This one sold for less than $50. Drat!

Drat!I just saw a pretty nice built MPC 1968 Coronet sell for $79.00.For one of these kits, that's pretty cheap.I didn't even bid on it because I figured it would go for much more. You just never know. 花火 Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I‘ve just received a metal wheel sets for 312t from postman, it reminds me of your post Steven, I really do share the same feeling with you. I was first find one this metal wheels on Ebay, with a really high price, equals nearly one more the model itself. So i just same with other about 20 guys, joined the 'watcher' team. Finally one day i felt like i just can't stand without the metal wheels so i click out Ebay and with my credit card ready but it was gone! However dramaticlly by the end of that day i found a brand-new same set on yahoojapan with a direct-buy price. Also the same with you Steven, the price became a little bit 'fine price'
gtx6970 Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Yep,same here.,,,I refuse got caught up in the feeding frenzy called Ebay . A few months back I was after a builder 1959 Fury kit. I bid my max $125 ( I already knew its not a cheap one to find ) at the last minute and got the message you been outbid.I watched it sell for over double that.,,,yes for a builtup Over the next few weeks, a few more come on,,,same deal sold for more than my max .Then one day a vendor I have dealt with a few times lists one. Looks pretty nice and clean builtup in the box. I got it for right at $130 delivered to my door. postage and all.
ChrisBcritter Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Good going! I got distracted with a big airplane photo project last night and missed one of the best '61 Tempest sedans I've seen in a while - sold for 32 lousy bucks. Got one other grail I'm looking at right now - price is somewhat high (for me) but it's been reduced after being posted up three times with no bids. Ending on Sunday...

Dragline Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Since I'm on eBay daily I have similar experiences. It pays to be persistent and stick to your guns. Eventually you get what you want at the price point you're comfortable with. I collect vintage skateboards and comics, I watch closely for trends and stay away from them. It's paid off almost every time.
oldcarfan Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Not too long ago I got on an eBay kick and got sniped. A day later, a similar auction came up and when it closed, the sniper got me again. I looked into it and found out some people use a sniper program to go in and "steal" an auction at the last minute. I was pretty sure that the same guy was doing it both times, so I put in a bid on another of the same item. About a minute before it closed I increased my minimum bid to $62 from $12. I guess his program kicked in and at a couple seconds before it closed he bought the most expensive Monogram Porsche 924 he ever saw. I know it was petty, but I did have a laugh. The next time it came up, I got the kit I wanted for a fair market price.
