I have it sitting on my shelf in the "not until I am good enough" section. I built one when it was first released back in 70 or so when I was around 11.

What do you need to know?

....the "not until I am good enough" section.....

I thought I was the only one who had one of those! B)

That would make a good thread: "What's on your "Not Till I'm Good Enough" shelf?"

I'm surprised any of those are left in unassembled form.  Those, and the Revell "Rodfather" (modified Roth Tweedy Pie) all seem to have been built (and not particularly well, at that) by kids under the age of 10...

This was Revell's attempt at making contemporary Funny Car kits. Chassis is loosely based on a Logghe style and the bodies are pretty cartoony creations. From what I know, they butchered the Grande Mustang to make this kit. Hence why we can't have a Grande Mustang anymore. .

The kits in the line where the Jungle Jim/Funny Hugger Camaro, A Maverick and the Mustang.

And the supposed kit that was used for the Mustang body

I didn't know that about the 70 Grande. Always wondered about it. Thanks.    Jeff

I believe that body actually started as a '69 Grande, a real rarity these days. I don't think I ever saw more than one or two even back in 1969.

Yes, you are correct. I forgot all about the '69

And how the bodies look

I guess you could make a Grande or a Convertible out of it

I know people think I'm nuts. But, I'd like to someday get my hands on Revell's Jungle Jim Camaro. It and Monogrram's Mean Maverick are the only two funny cars I built back in day. So it's pure nostalgia that makes me want that kit again.

I just sold that kit (less the body) on Evilbay a few weeks ago for $15.50.  I threw in some extra Johan Mustang Funny car parts and body.  I guess I could have sold separate parts for ten times more.

And you would have to build them with those crazy steam roller slicks! LOL!

I too built one of these in the 70's when they came out. I still have a couple pieces of it.

I also have an unbuilt one on the shelf.

Been trying to get the Heavy Hugger Camaro, but they are always too much.

I built the Jungle Jim Camaro as a kid and managed to score me another one a few years ago. I was quite surprised that some items in the kit had been changed.

The rear wheels and slicks where replaced with the newer, for the 70's, wheels and tires from the more correct line of drag cars from Revell, along with more correct HEMI valve covers. i plan on building it using the original style wheels and tires for the sake of nostalgia.

As for the Huggers, our old LHS got them and could not sell them off! Finally ended up dropping the price and they disappeared. i should have bought a few more.

This is a Great subject. I don't know a lot about these kits so I appreciate everything that I'm reading here. Unfortunately, I have never had any of them and would love to have all of them.  Thanks.    Jeff

The Camaro Heavy Hugger was reissued sometime in the last 15-20 years. I remember seeing them at stores. I am pretty sure I even bought one. But I've never seen the Mustang reissued.

I don't remember when or where I bought the one I have now. I know it was around that same time frame. Either a swap meet or Ebay. I managed to not sell it even when I was desperate and sold things like my AlaKart/29 Ford double kit. I pretty much cried when that happened, but since a 69 hardtop was my first running car there was and is no way that one will ever be sold by me.

I built everything but the Boss Mustang  F/C back in the day when they were new, but I did score an unbuilt one a few years ago for reasonable $$. Picked up the Camaro reissue back in the '90s, probably the best looking out of the F/C bunch, IMO. Will probably do them OTB, just pure nostalgia. I'm not really too keen on the Maverick, probably the weirdest looking attempt at a serious funny car body ever, again IMO. I remember getting the '70 Grande' at Radio Shack for something like .99 w/coupon at Christmastime back in the early '70s. Not really my fav. Mustang body style but hey, it had a drag option!

I built the Jungle Jim kit back then

Had 2 but 1 had a frame side snap into a few pieces and get melted in a bottle of Testor's Liquid cemet

No Idea where any of the parts are for them now!!!!

The J-J kit is the only one I ghad!!

Too bad about the use of the 69-70 Grande being butchered!!!!

Would Love to find one today, but prices......................
