CarLover Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 (edited) Hey guys, I'm just started to build 2 shelby cobra 427, 1/16(mpc) and 1/24 (fujimi) For now, i painted the body, gravity colors guardsman blue for the 1/16 and tamiya ts19 metallic blue for the 1/24, later i will paint white stripes on both of them. One question, why to the 1/16 doesn't have the lower air intake? (the small one) (i don't know english very well, so I'll mostly post some photos Without many words, so enjoy. but feel free to give advices) Edited June 16, 2016 by CarLover
styromaniac Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Looks like a good start. Always loved the Cobras. Don't know why the big one does not have the opening the little one has.
Dogfish_7 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 (edited) It may be the year of the model Edited April 16, 2016 by Dogfish_7
CarLover Posted April 26, 2016 Author Posted April 26, 2016 Ok, i had done some progress on the chassis, in th 1/16 i lost some part, so i scratch build it like this: This is the opposite side, And the scratch build : After that i made new suspension arms for both of them, blue onrs for the 1/16 ad white for the 1/24 And in the chassis, including the differential : I also finished the 1/24 engine (i will add some more detail later) : the 1/16 had some issues with the fitting and i need to repaint it(i tried with blue, didn't like it)
CarLover Posted April 26, 2016 Author Posted April 26, 2016 I changed the wiring of the spark plugs, the previous was overscale.... What do you think?
Dann Tier Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 You're doing great!, I'm glad you changed the plug wires, it looks way better now -Keep up the good work!
CarLover Posted April 28, 2016 Author Posted April 28, 2016 I start thinking on the interior color, is should be kind of black, not completely black (like x1, x18) i thought about tamiya xf85 rubber black, or mr color tire black. what do you guys think? Any other suggestions? What is the best color/method for simulate black leather on the seats? I have access to Vallejo, tamiya and mr color

I would use Tamiya Semi Gloss Clear over a Tamiya Flat Black.
CarLover Posted April 28, 2016 Author Posted April 28, 2016 Out of those brands, I only know Tamiya. I would use Tamiya Semi Gloss Clear over a Tamiya Flat Black. This for the seats? It would be like x18, no? (semi gloss black) what for the main color interior?
Dann Tier Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 This for the seats? It would be like x18, no? (semi gloss black) what for the main color interior? That should still work for a well kept leather look. but for some reason, I find that putting a semi gloss clear coat over flat black IS different, and that's how I prefer to do it. Check out some of my builds on my page to see if that's the black leather look you want
bobthehobbyguy Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Nice start. To answer the question not all of the 427 Cobra had the scoop. I was doing some rearch and found cobra csx3102 did not have the scoop. My guess is the car that MPC used to measure was one of those cars.
CarLover Posted May 7, 2016 Author Posted May 7, 2016 So i did some progress on the wheels And i attach the 1/24 engine wirh the drive shaft and differential And radiator with alclad Chrome fans And in the cabin(that's the right word....?) I not done with the seats yet... 1/16 1/24(very simple look) Im still working on the 1/16 engine, i try to scratch build the air funnels of the engine
CarLover Posted May 30, 2016 Author Posted May 30, 2016 Engine of the 1 16 almost done, Scratch build of the carburetor top and some wiring, more to come
CarLover Posted May 31, 2016 Author Posted May 31, 2016 Thanks! Just for proportion, this is how the one that came from the kit looks like:
CarLover Posted June 6, 2016 Author Posted June 6, 2016 Little more progress, the 1/16 get painted stripes with gravity colors titanium white It will get 2k clear soon, i will paint stripes also on the 1/24 with tamiya ts13 as clear coat
Shardik Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Nice, crisp edges on those stripes. What do you use for masking?
CarLover Posted June 7, 2016 Author Posted June 7, 2016 (edited) Thanks guys! I used 1.5mm micron masking tape for the middle line and the tamiya's ones for covering everything else Edited June 7, 2016 by CarLover
