Johnny Thunders solo album (1978)  version of Subway Train . Originally on the New York Dolls first album (1973) ; Thunders' version is "How it's supposed to sound" according to ol' Thunders himself .

I actually own that, believe it or not! Didn't recognize the song title or remember the song. Looked it up on wiki and the only two song titles I recognized at all were Lookin' for a Kiss and Vietnamese Baby. I must not have had it heavy rotation back in the day.

I can only imagine how insane they must've sounded back in '73 ( I was only 3 --- didn't hear them until 1985 when I was in high school ) . I love that first Dolls  album ; however , I enjoy Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers more .

Vietnamese Baby is a blast !

They didn't sound that insane to me. But then, about that time, I was listening to Bowie, Mott the Hoople, early REO Speedwagon and Aerosmith, some Lou Reed, Roxy Music, and so forth. I mentally had Starz in the same box but checking, I see they didn't debut till a couple years later (1977).

What blew my mind was years later when I found out that "Buster Poindexter" and David Johansen were the same person!

Not to mention that he was the Ghost of Christmas Past ( cab driver ) in Scrooged .

Are you a fan of The Velvet Underground ?

This is the single version of Old John Robertson from the Younger Than Yesterday sessions (1966) :

... and the album mix from Notorious Byrd Brothers (1967 ) , which truly "just" a remix consisting of panning , phasing , and Moog synthesiser tweaking :

Not really. I only have a couple Lou Reed albums. I think I have Berlin, and I know I have Rock and Roll Animal. Gotta love that live "Sweet Jane." B)

Speaking of which, for a while there I was collecting covers of "Sweet Jane." In addition to LR's, my favorite versions were Mott the Hoople's and Brownsville Station's. B)

(BTW, I consider Mott's All the Young Dudes to be one of the very finest albums of the whole rock n roll era. I will fight anyone who says different.  )

Lacuna Coil cover of Depeche Mode's Enjoy the Silence.

Not strictly 'by the original artist'! ?  Good video though.

I love that Cher had herself cloned to sing backup for this 1987 SNL appearance. Also notice that the band is basically Letterman's band along with G.E. Smith.  VERY cool performance!

24.07.2018 live version of I Wasn't Born To Follow ( originally on Notorious Byrd Brothers and in the iconic 1969 film  Easy Rider ) . The only original members of the band here are Roger Mc Guinn and Chris Hillman ; Marty Stuart is playing Clarence White's B-Bender guitar [ !!! ] .

Pleasantly surprised that they replicated that "Psychedelic part" of the song , especially live .

Heard this version on the radio today.  It is played over the original video so that might throw you off a bit.  Wish I knew what album it was available on.

And if you’re just DYING to hear the original tracks, here they are......   A Tout Le Monde is a particularly good one.
