bubbaman Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 i got the 67 GTO and there is soooo much extra plastic to cut off - just shouldn`t be
MrBuick Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 That specific kit isn't all that great, the tooling is pretty old. There are some other great MPC kits out there though, so I wouldn't let that one turn you completely off the brand. The '70 Super Bee for instance, is a great kit...very clean and everything seems to fit well.
FordRodnKustom Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 It's an old mold, they're usually like that. I keep a pack of new #11's around for just such situations.
pack rat Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 I wouldn't condemn the label based on one example. Yes, some of the MPC kits are based on old tooling that has seen better days, but some are better than others.I would suggest consulting this board's review/workbench/under glass sections to get other's opinions on a particular kit before you take the plunge. If you don't see what you're looking for...ask. There are lots of helpful people here.
Snake45 Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 That kit is buildable. Just takes a little time and skill, that's all.
1972coronet Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Get the Monogram '66 GTO instead . Sure , it's one year earlier than the '67 MPC (and its 50 years old tooling and core-shift !) , but you won't have to rework every little piece !

I have a few put back for a rainy day. But , as mentioned don't condemn an entire brand on one kit.
Harry Joy Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I built that kit just a few months ago, and loved it. It was fun to build, and came out great.

The '66 Monogram was merely a suggestion . I agree with the don't condemn an entire brand based on one kit assessment .
Harry P. Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 The original MPC went out of business a long time ago. Kits you see on the shelves today with the MPC logo are reissues of ancient tooling, so buyer beware.
dshue76 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I learned long ago how to scrape flash away with an exacto blade and honestly it doesn't bother me too much to do it. The only thing that irks me with some of the old AMT and MPC kits is when the halves of the mold weren't aligned. But even that annoyance doesn't stop me from liking a kit.
62rebel Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I better shut up now, before my privileges are permanently revoked.
slusher Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 That kit is buildable. Just takes a little time and skill, that's all. Snake is right. Ibuilt the kit several years ago and made a real nice shelf model..
charlie8575 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Use the Revell kit for the undercarriage and engine, and there are a couple of resin casters that supply the right front seats (somehow, this one apparently ended up with the 1970 seats,) and you can get a very nice model out of it.Charlie Larkin
MGL Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 MPC kits cover too many great subjects to give up on and not all of them will have that much flash, some are almost flash free. If you look in the review section or ask for somebody to review a kit usually somebody here will oblige, then you would know what your getting into before you buy it. In addition, kits from any manufacturer can be prone to flash, it's just a fact of life that we sometimes have to deal with. I hope you preserver and carry on, there are too many great subjects covered by old worn out kit molds to give up on any one manufacturer.
