Greg Pugh Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 This was supposed to be a quick build-in-between-builds that ended up taking longer than it should have...(Note to self; next time you want a quick build-in-between-builds, DO NOT use an early Revell kit!). Sorry about that. Anyways... This car was built to replicate the box art. I've been in a 70's mood lately and this one kinda spoke to me. Especially considering the date on the kit was the year I was born (1976). It has embossing powder inside for carpeting. I ground out the molded-in chrome headlights and installed clear lenses. I also sanded the raised lettering from the kit-supplied license plate that said "LIL J" and instead made a license plate online using the same characters but used a more accurate license plate to the time period this car would've been built. The wheels were stripped of their horrible chrome plating and were shot with alclad. It was otherwise, built box-stock. The body was painted not once, not twice, not three times, but FOUR times before I was satisfied. It was painted in Testors Yellow and the fenders were painted in a brown that I custom mixed to my liking, using Testors enamels. They were then thinned out and shot through an airbrush. All in all, a fun build! I thought that this might scratch my 70's itch but I think it might have made it worse! Now I'm thinking it might be time for a custom 70's van or an early 70's muscle car/street machine. MMMMmmmmmmm.....
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Wow. That looks great. I don't think I've ever seen one of these built before, and certainly never one built this nicely.

tim boyd Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 Just to add my kudos....that's about the cleanest (and most realistic appearing) build of that kit I can recall. Interestingly, when this kit first came out (in the Buttera Tudor Sedan form), I dropped everything and did a 24 hour build. It was even Testors Candy Blue over silver (when that spray paint dried in minutes/hours instead of days/weeks). The kit just about fell together for me. At the time, I considered it the best-ever Revell kit I'd built, a ton ahead of most of their 1960's tooled kits. It was then, and is still now, one of my all time favorite street rod/hot rod model kits. Thanks Greg for bringing back those memories, and again, great job on that model! Cheers...TIM

Flatout Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 Beautiful work Greg, really shows how nice the Buttera T's can look when finished.
crazyrichard Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 oh whow thats spot on !! very realistic looking on those outdoor pics ! , clean and yes i build this kit .. its not your slap together stuff .. needs lot of work
Spex84 Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 Beautiful! Clean, well photographed, and era-correct. These days I'm appreciating 70s rods more than I used to, and I'm thinking about building a dramatic Fad T just for fun...and your build is a great example of how good these cars can look. Your extra effort in fixing the bad chrome and mixing the right brown color really made the difference between a good build and an awesome one. Great work!
Davewilly Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 Looks really nice! I have one started....its somewhere in the model closet....I need to finish it soon. I hope it looks as nice as your when its done
68shortfleet Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 (edited) Looking great Greg, unfortunately it is probably going to make my next build look terrible. Edited April 27, 2016 by 68shortfleet
