mikemodeler Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 Surprised nobody has mentioned Yes yet. Another of my all-time faves.Did you not read my post ?
cobraman Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 My absolute favorite DC5 song... which reinforces my theory that any song that features a harmonica is a good song... I think "Try too Hard" was my fav.
Harry P. Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 Another great British band... Queen. Of course, Freddie Mercury always stole the spotlight, but I think Brian May was just as much an integral part of the band, although basically overlooked. Here he is in a rare "starring performance" doing my all-time favorite Queen song...
Snake45 Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 I'll second that. Say Them with my friends at the old Uris Theatre in 1974.Stiff Little fingers is a close second. Is that a NYC theater? And was that in the summer, maybe July?
SfanGoch Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 (edited) Is that a NYC theater? And was that in the summer, maybe July? Yup. It was renamed The Gershwin and it was on W.51st Street. The show was on May 11. Being on a Saturday, it was the only way I was able to go. I was a month away from graduating 8th grade. I still have the ticket stubs from all of the concerts I went to somewhere in the cave. Edited May 14, 2016 by SfanGoch
SfanGoch Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 A lot of their albums were concept type. That was a popular theme with a lot of artists in the mid-late 1970s. Remember the Intergalactic Touring Band?
Harry P. Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 Sorry, but yet another vote for the Hollies. Probably the biggest "unknown" band of all time. And Graham Nash gets a shot at lead vocals in the last verse...
SfanGoch Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 King Crimson is another favorite. Robert Fripp is one of the best guitarists in the business. His work with League of Gentleman was really good. I saw him at Club 57 on St. Mark's Place in the East Village in 1980.
花火 Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 (edited) Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin else, I'm a fan of Eric Clapton... if he can be considered in the 'band' catogroies... 花火 Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 used to listen to another band called Oasis. Very English rock style...
SfanGoch Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 Sorry, but yet another vote for the Hollies. Probably the biggest "unknown" band of all time... How about "Bus Stop"? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZEoKqjfvkw
Harry P. Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 How about "Bus Stop"? Oh yeah, and a lot of others! Like this one...
Harry P. Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 Not technically a band, but another of my faves is Elvis Costello. "What's the use of looking when you don't know what they mean?" Short and to the point!
Harry P. Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 Man! The more I think about this, the more I come up with. ELO. Saw them while in college, second row. Wow, they were loud!
SfanGoch Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 I'm also a big fan of the Two Tone movement from the late '70s - early '80s. Madness and The Specials pretty much epitomized the sound. Time to skank
Harry P. Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 Another vote for the Hollies. A live version of Procol Harum's "Whiter Shade of Pale."

Short and to the point! The entire Stiff Records lineup was fantastic. Elvis, Ian Dury & The Blockheads, Nick Lowe, Devo and one of my favorites, Lene Lovich: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0mN4iIsOno Remember, "If It Ain't Stiff, It Ain't Worth a _____". maltsr Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Britain has produced more great bands than any other nation, especially considering the size of the place.May I add Black Sabbath, Def Leppard, The Who, The Small Faces, Genesis, Faces, Free, Simple Minds, New Order, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Deep Purple, Rainbow, The Animals, Supertramp, Coldplay, Dire Straits, The Police etc. etc.
