Hmmmmm...I didn't know that, having never seen the Avenger kit.

I had a real Avenger on a Bug pan with a 140 Corvair mill for a while. Lotsa fun, but kinda awful fiberglass.

Union Models of Japan was the last to release the VW so it's possible they would have at least the basis for the kit. If the mold still exists. Otherwise being an IMC/Testors mold it's possible parts may exist with Round2. I've seen a couple of these at car shows and all seem to have that high-rise look. Maybe poor design, fitment issues over the front suspension or to have better interior space? Always liked the Bradly GT better if your going for the sports kit car.

The old Avenger doesn't HAVE to look like a retard-clown-car. It's idiot builders who make them that way.

You found pictures of the kit I bought just a little over a week ago, but was unable to post pictures of my own here. An interesting kit. I spent a little over a year trying to get one, before I got mine.

Who has the tooling/dies? My guess, if anybody has them it would be Round 2. They bought off Lindberg several years ago. And it seems like Lindberg has many of the IMC dies. That's where the Little Red Wagon, Dodge L-600, Mustang II and Cougar show cars came from. The best bet is Round 2 has the Avenger GT-12 kit too.

Now comes Murphy's Law into play. Since I just found a copy of the model for my collection after a somewhat long search. Round 2 will announce they are reissuing the kit in the next few months! For me, I hope not. For the rest of you, I hope so. It's a cool little kit of a very cool car.

Just goes to show how important a few subtle differences are...

bestest,

What is the bottom car just above? I'm sorry to say, I think the Avanger GT-12 is much better looking than that thing. But, not as nice as the two Ford GTs.

I love blue. I was think about painting my Avenger GT-12 yellow until I saw the picture you posted above. The car looks great in blue. And sitting at a reasonable level.

As I posted above Union "possibly" has the VW mold that is the basis for this kit. None of the IMC and Heller kits they last released have ever been seen since the early 80's. Off the top of my head they had the molds for the following IMC kits, Lola T-70, Chaparral 2e, '48 Ford's, the series of GT40's, the VW and the Lotus 49. There have been many theories as to the whereabouts of the molds but no one has a definite answer.

I think you are quite safe ( and lucky) in your purchase.

In case you don't know, there was also a mid-engined version of the Avenger called the Valkyrie, which carried its V8 in the middle, using a bespoke steel tube frame.

The car in this video is kinda dorky, with the too-wide tires sticking out of the fenders, but there's potential there.

One of the many kits I built and lost or destroyed when I was a kid. Painted it light blue and built poorly. Oh well. Wouldn't mind a second chance to build it again.
