CarModDave Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 (edited) I've been working on my true fire painting so I grabbed a kit from "The Pile" and here's what I ended up with: It's the resin Testors/Jimmy Flintstone "Tub-O-Sorus" slammer kit and all paint is HoK topped with DuPont urethane. I chose this kit because it's a sedan delivery and gave me a bit more area to paint. I'm still not 100% happy wih the end result, as I think the flames on the roof and hood look a bit too ....."structured". Not "random" enough. But I'll keep on practicing! One thing I did notice: On the 1:1's, you can get by with overspraying the Kandy's onto the black base. Doing this "in scale" ended up giving mine more of a "root beer" color. Next time I'll be more careful and try to keep as close to the flame pattern(s) as possible. By the way, if anyone has Mike Lavallee's "True Fire 2" DVD (green & blue flames), any chance you could pass along the order in which the colors are applied? I know what colors he uses, just not the correct order. Anyway, here's the pics. Any questions, just ask away! Edited April 13, 2008 by CarModDave
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Well from what I see, you've done a pretty good job. I've always wanted to try doing those but never got around to it. Keep up the good work.
CarModDave Posted April 15, 2008 Author Posted April 15, 2008 Thanks guys. It was a pretty time-consuming "paint day", that's for sure! But is was a lot of fun, too!
Mal.au Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Sorry Dave I fail to see anything wrong with that looks like a Mike Lavally job to me Mal
Peter Lombardo Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Those are flat out great flames. True Fire flames in 1/25 th scale are not easy to do. Especially with HOK lacquers because the paint drys so fast it can clog the tip every 5 seconds. Great job. Keep at it.
Jeff Johnston Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Dang Dave !!! That's wicked !!! I'd give my right ... well I'd give a lot to be able to do that !!!! So cool...I mean HOT !!!
