Dennis Lacy Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I think there's a lot more going on here than a lack of tape measure. I think, perhaps, the builders eyesight was compromised. As in, completely blind.
Russell C Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 So if back in the day the guys at Palmer Plastics were to go off the reproduction here, does that mean the kit would have ended up proportioned correctly?

cobraman Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 I really like the real one and would love a kit of it. The copy............not so much. : )
Art Anderson Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 I think they're both pretty goofy looking...Harry, the original Barney Oldfield "Golden Submarine" was pretty much right on the money for 1919, when it was built, and as restored/reproduced by a Michigan enthusiast back about 25yrs ago (I've seen it in person, it's really pretty awesome. However, the later "reproduction" is just plain awful--I've seen it multiple times, as the guy keeps running it through the auction at Auburn IN over Labor Day. Art

Harry P. Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 All the mirrors in the world won't save that thing. It's just flat-out UGLY.
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 3, 2016 Author Posted July 3, 2016 All the mirrors in the world won't save that thing. It's just flat-out UGLY. Perhaps, but it WAS state of the art aerodynamics for the time. Unfortunately, what the air likes doesn't always go hand in hand with what the mind and eye like.
Spex84 Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 I know meme posts aren't encouraged here, but this one definitely applies
Chuck Most Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 I just smoked a near-lethal amount of crack, and I still don't see how they got from Point A to Point B on this one.
