Harry P. Posted July 12, 2016 Author Posted July 12, 2016 They will be visible, just as they are now.
Twokidsnosleep Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 (edited) Ahh Harry, great to see you back the bench best news all day! I swear we live in a parallel universe of model interest, I have both of those kits in the stash as well. I LOVE the look and packaging of them. I got them from HiroBoy in UK. My favourite is the 806 Fiat..they destroyed the actual car after it won a Grand Prix!!!??? They really are gorgeous beasts though and rival the Pochers in packaging at least..hopefully better fit and finish. The kits scream quality IMHO Gonna follow along like a puppy on your heel Edited July 12, 2016 by Twokidsnosleep
Harry P. Posted July 12, 2016 Author Posted July 12, 2016 These models not only equal Pochers as far as realism/detail... but in many cases they surpass them. The Mefistofele engine I'm working on right now is better than any Pocher engine I've built so far (Bugatti, Mercedes, Rolls Royce, and Alfa Romeo). Of course, where Pochers really shine are those gorgeous real wire wheels.
Roadrunner Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 They will be visible, just as they are now.Very similar then, to the inline six bangers used on many WWI fighter aircraft.

Oh that is some great news, I thought the parts looked well moulded but you just never know how things will fit until you are in the middle of it. I love the little plastic case for the small parts, the divided parts box and the amazing box's art look and feel. How do you make a printed cardboard box feel like that??? Nothing like taking the challenge and lacing up some wire wheels yourself..one of my goals for the future Best wishes for continued health and mojo flow

Roadrunner Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 You obviously didn't read my intro to this thread. It is a WWI airplane engine!Oh, you assume I can actually read, eh? Actually, I generally do just mostly look at the photos, reading but a small percentage of actual posts and responses.

The only images I can find of the original car go back to publicity photos in its racing days. Makes me wonder what Italeri had to go on when making the kit.
Harry P. Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 I couldn't find much in the way of 806 photos, either. Plenty of Mefistofele photos, but only 2 or 3 of the 806... and no engine photos whatsoever.
Harry P. Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 Speaking of engine... tonight I was working on the 24 spark plugs. Each one has to be cut from the sprue, the cuts cleaned up, the plating scraped from the mounting pin, then the rest of the plug painted white... then the separate terminals attached to each, then the boot and wire for each. Twenty-four times! In 1/12 scale! Needless to say, it was a huge pain. Even under the magnifier I have a hard time seeing what I'm doing, let alone have a good way to hold each plug while working on it.
Harry P. Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 Progress on the engine is slow going because there are just so many parts. Here I have installed the main water pipe. The rubber hose parts are in the kit, and the hose clamps are decals, also supplied in the kit. Applying those tiny hose clamp decals one by one, and keeping them straight as they run around the hose, was a challenge.

Roadrunner Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Be glad they're not 1:32 scale, Harry. Taurus models makes 1:32 plugs for use in WWI fighter plane engines. I have some here, and they are tiny.
Twokidsnosleep Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Little history if you are having trouble sleeping at night.http://www.grandprixhistory.org/fiat804.htmThe part that gets me is at the end of the article where the cars are ordered destroyed
Harry P. Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 I'm having trouble sleeping, because of the incredible pain of this darn sciatica. In fact I didn't sleep at all last night... not even five minutes.Man, this kit is really kicking my butt. The engine has so many details, so many tiny separate parts, that I now have a stiff neck and sore shoulders and back just from the intense concentration you need in order to build this engine. New photo updates tomorrow.
bbowser Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Just getting you revved up for that chain . I can sympathize about not sleeping, really messes with you day and night.

New photo updates tomorrow. Dude - If your doc knew you were doing this to yourself he'd kick your a s s! Maybe take a rest / sabbatical until they make some progress with your treatment?? Models are supposed to be fun and therapy but not when you're playing hurt to start with...
Harry P. Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 I know, but working on the model sort of takes my mind off the pain. A little. So it's sort of "therapy," even though building this engine is really hard. Much harder than any Pocher engine I've ever built.
Twokidsnosleep Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 (edited) Chronic pain can mess with your mind something fierce. Do a little of what you say to take your mind off and a little of what Cato says to rest. Everything in moderation. Wishing you well and some sleep Edited July 13, 2016 by Twokidsnosleep
cobraman Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Sorry about your pain. Not being able to get a least a good nights sleep makes it tough to great the new day. Back to the kit, those plugs are so tiny. The chain is going to be a real chore. Hopefully they won't need a ton of clean up.

New photo updates tomorrow. We have some people at work with their cubes configured for working in a standing position. Do you think it would help to have a high workbench and work on your models in a standing position? Would that help with the pain?

I have grown accustom to many of the discomforts and pain of MS after 24 years.
