om617 Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Bough this cheap on a local add. Had some issues as sanded away detail and trim here and there and one wheelarch on the rear was a complete mess, including the obligatory wrecked windsheild frame. The color is meant to look like Dublin Green, popular among many GM models. I thought it look better with the green top and green boot over white,as the interior are. The boot that follow the car did not fit at all,so i used one from the AMT 62 Impala (new tool) parts car. I also used the steeringwheel from this kit with the Buick colum, the Modelhaus wheel was way to thick imo. I will touch up some painting in the engine compartment and try add clear glass on the top and i calling it done. Replacement parts are the hood and ornament. Here are some pictures, thanks for looking.
CometMan Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Very, very nice save Tommy! That is definitely one you don't see very often!
Harry P. Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Wow! Awesome, and that's a word I never use! I love the colors and everything else. Beautiful model. I wish cars still looked like this today.
MrObsessive Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Clean as a whistle! Excellent! Gotta love those '61 GM wingless jets!
TarheelRick Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 This is a real beauty. Reminds me of the annual hardtop I had back in '61, I painted it candy red without an undercoat. Oh well, it was a learning curve; think I put it into a pan of boiling water and sort of wrecked it.
Sixties Sam Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Very nice model of a rare subject! Good work!Sam
wayne swayze Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I really like your colour choices! Very cool car!
Mr Stock Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Wow thats nice Tommy, colour suits it very well, and some very tidy foilwork too, great job.
Rider Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Great looking car, not a fan of the colour but man did you ever do a great job on the finish. Fantastic BMF work, love the work on the seats! Well done.
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I love it Tommy! 1961 was a great year, especially for GM. The color is terrific! I do have a couple of questions though. First, what kit did the up top come from? I know the AMT '61 Buick kit came with that dopey "half top" instead of a proper up top. It fits pretty well. Second, I'm a little baffled by the firewall. It looks nothing like the firewall that came with my '61. It doesn't really even look like a firewall. I don't even see a master cylinder. Not trying to be critical. I'm just curious where it came from. Overall, it's a very pretty Buick!! Steve
om617 Posted July 30, 2016 Author Posted July 30, 2016 Thanks all for the feedback.Steve: The top i think it from a 63 or 64 Impala annual if i remember right.Yeah it looks a lot diffrent, and to be honest i have no idea,it follow the kit wheni purchased it. Might have to source down a orignal firewall. Btw your 61 lookamazing.
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Might have to source down a orignal firewall.I don't think I'd go through all that hassle.I was only wondering.with that strange looking "grille" on the drivers side, I thought it almost looked like it could be a dash board out of something. Just thought it would be interesting to find out what the source was.Regardless, it's a great looking model!! Steve
