Jantrix Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 I have around 65 kits. Most of them, I have a pretty good idea on how I'm going to build them. I've got plans and I'm hunting up parts and decals and what not. And then there's this thing. Don't get me wrong, I really like this car. I've heard it's a good kit. It would be a shame to part it out for the engine and tires and forget about it. But I don't have a single idea what do do with it. So a little help would be appreciated. Now don't just say, "slam it and paint it red!", I'm looking for a theme. Weird, odd, unusual is my wheelhouse, feel free to exercise the imagination. Any help would be appreciated.
espo Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Have you ever watched Chasing Classic Cars on the Velocity Channel ? They had a recent show where they got a Pro Touring type Chrysler ready for auction. It had some minor exterior trim changes and a red leather interior. The chassis was setup for much better handling. I have seen others here that have gone into much more of a custom and even a chopped roof on one. Some one even put a Viper engine in one and went that way. The body lines and interior on this kit are almost to nice to mess with to much. To each his own, but this is really a nice kit even if you just went stock.
JollySipper Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 How about a two-seater speedster.......... ?
Jantrix Posted August 18, 2016 Author Posted August 18, 2016 How about a two-seater speedster.......... ? Trying to figure out all the ways that was cut, makes my head hurt.
JollySipper Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Yea, kinda looks like a Frankenstein monster..........!
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 A Carson-topped kustom? (not my model) Maybe a truncated wagon? Or something long and lean? Or just shove a 426 Hemi in it, and a straight axle, and call it a gasser. Transplanting late-model Mopar guts under it could make a cool pro-touring type thing too.
StevenGuthmiller Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 The '57- '59 Chryslers were widely considered to be one of the most beautiful body styles of the 50s. Can't imagine why anyone would want to mess that up. Every example I've seen so far on this thread, except for the box art on the AMT kit, is just ugly as sin! Just my opinion. Steve
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 (edited) Another take on the old-school kustom theme... Edited August 19, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 (edited) Maybe one prepped for Bonneville... or other straight-line competition... Edited August 19, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
Harry P. Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Why mess with a car as good looking as that? Build it box stock. Maybe a cool wheel/tire upgrade, but aside from that, not much room for improvement on that design IMO.

Other than maybe taking the molding and emblem off the rear quarter, and possibly adding a set of fender skirts to give it a long, smooth silhouette, and adding a fancier set of wheels/tires there's not a lot to improve on this car! It set the styling trend that most others followed for several years.
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Perhaps a Chrysler clay mockup that didn't make the cut?
russosborne Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 I guess I will play since I have this kit. How about an "after it's been crushed" version? Or how about a demolition derby car after the event? Sorry, but to me this is one ugly car. I bought it way back for parts that I never got around to using. Was probably the engine, certainly was not the body. Just my opinion. Russ
Jantrix Posted August 19, 2016 Author Posted August 19, 2016 Maybe a truncated wagon? A wagon? Now that's an idea. I have the optional wagon top from the '65 Lincoln kit. I'll have to see how that would look.Great ideas guys, I really appreciate the feedback. And you are right, it is a great looking car without doing a thing to it.

You can start with a Flintstone resin & save yourself a whole bunch of hassle. Steve
Jantrix Posted August 19, 2016 Author Posted August 19, 2016 You can start with a Flintstone resin & save yourself a whole bunch of hassle. Not a bad idea. Thanks.
JTalmage Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Flintstone wagon body.... hunkered down over some whitewalls and salt flat discs, set up for Bonneville.... either as a 2 tone push car, or a lettered up land speed car with the blower from the Fireball Roberts Ford?!?
om617 Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Not much of design help since it`s stock looking. But wanted to do somthing a bit diffrent.
Jantrix Posted August 19, 2016 Author Posted August 19, 2016 (edited) Not much of design help since it`s stock looking. But wanted to do somthing a bit diffrent. Not true. Very helpful. I'm looking for a "theme". Pro-street is a theme and designs follow. I do have an AMT 70 Superbee pro-street kit. Where I wouldn't open the doors like you, but it's definitely something I'd consider. Thanks again to everyone who responded. Jesse, the push car idea is very good. At the top of my list. Edited August 19, 2016 by Jantrix
JTalmage Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Thanks again to everyone who responded. Jesse, the push car idea is very good. At the top of my list. You're welcome. I have been wanting to make more salt flat cars lately. I know a guy who has a raggedy looking white/red Edsel wagon.... and he uses it at Bonneville as a push car. Wagons are way cool for that stuff. Some pop-sickle sticks cut, distressed, and "bolted" to a bracket on the nose.... good to go.

With all due respect, I have too many kits of good looking cars that I know exactly what to do with to spend much time worrying about what to do with...let's just say..."also rans."
JTalmage Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 It's a nice car, but it's DeSoto and Plymouth cousins were much more beautiful.
