Joe Handley Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 I know it can be done with painted as well as directly over plastic, but is there a good way to get the tampo printing off the current AMT tires? The lettering on the tires in the version of the Li'l Gasser I bought yesterday is printed with wording that wouldn't work with my intended theme and would like to go to bare sidewalls if possible.
Snake45 Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Try rubbing alcohol. Ammonia might do it, too. If neither of those work, move up to lighter fluid.
Joe Handley Posted September 18, 2016 Author Posted September 18, 2016 Thanks guys, I'll give those a shot!
berr13 Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I've used MM Flat Engine Black on the AMT tires--just a very light coat and those letters disappear...
espo Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I have managed to mess up the lettering while gluing the tires and wheels together. I was using Model Master liquid cement and just I drop got out on the tire. This dislodged the lettering and while whipping it away it left no traces of the glue but the lettering was gone. Not the best method for sure but it might be a fall back if any of the other suggestions don't work.
Tom Geiger Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Or the way we did it on 1:1 cars... mount the tires with the lettering on the inside! I still hope to build a model like that someday.
