Got a little free time over the weekend . And I have had this one in primer for months. So I thought I would get her in paint while the weather was nice.

I had some air brush issues . So its nice a super slick  as I would have liked,,,But not near as grainy as these pics make it out to be in person . I think for the most part it'll polish out good enough for my shelf. (pics make it look so much worst than it appears in person)

Color is called Light Iris metallic. I had it mixed locally and had them use the finest metallic they had ,,,And I like it.

Interior and chassis are both already painted( black ) . Build will be all box stock , right down to the white walls and 8 lug wheels

Looking good Bill.

Were you intending to clear coat?

Just keep in mind that a "lot" of that "graininess" can be negated with a few good coats of clear.

I was not at all happy with the initial finish on my '69 Coronet either.

It was quite grainy as well.

After several coats of Duplicolor clear, that graininess virtually disappeared & I was left with very minor orange peel to polish out.

Each successive coat of clear will eliminate a little bit of orange peel & graininess.

I usually give mine as many coats as they can take without burying the detail.

I can usually get away with 4 or 5 coats.

Thanks all. When i stumbled on a 1.1 in this color right after the kit was reissued. I knew i had to have it.

Steve.

I doubt it wil be anywhere near your quality.......but i may wet sand it and put a couple more clear coats on it before polishing. (there are 2 on it now)

After clear & a little polishing, this is where I'm at.

I use the Duplicolor "Perfect Match" lacquer.

I also use the "Paint Shop" clear in the quart can on occasion.

By the way Bill, I meant to delete the Dodge photos a little sooner.

Sorry about that.

I didn't want your Pontiac thread to fill up with Coronet photos.

WOW. I'm amazed how well this one polished out. Spent maybe just over an hour. and have probably 2/3rds of the body wet sanded and polished.

A LOT of the graininess is gone ( some if it is in the base coat and I cant do anything about it. ) but the shine is amazing.

I can actually tell what kind of bulb is in my office room light. I LOVE this color ,,but its tough to get to show the true color on the PC.

I've added a picture of the car I'm using as inspiration.

Bill,

That one is looking great so far. I think that Iris Mist is one of the best colors for the '65 G/P. I have an original annual kit in my stash that I may decide to build, after I do a few other projects.

I used Testors' Evening Orchid Lacquer on my  '65 Corvair Corsa build.

To me, the metalflake is too coarse, and I may re-do it, after looking at yours.

I like the way your paint came out in the photos.

I have to admit. The color is really nice. I think my application could have been better. to be honest I think I put the base coat on a little dry  and IMO  the metallic doesn't look  right to me in person.  But overall so far Im real happy with it.

Now I have to figure out how to replicate the wood grain on the dash and console ?

Worked on the grille for a while, and  I think it turned out ok. Unfortunately I had to deal with those ugly chrome headlights again.

I stumbled on the fact that if you dont shake the small testors bottles of chrome silver , and if you just barely dip a brush in it you get this super super  thin clear silver out of it. I think they look pretty good.

Once its all dry I'll put some clear Elmers glue on them to give it some  depth. The rest is just testors silver and then some blackwash in the grille grates and wiped off the ridges to highlight the chrome

Let me know what you think.

Bill, this GP of yours is shaping up nicely,,,but inquiring minds want to know.....WHERE is that  dog gone Vette that was going to be finished .....I hate being kept in suspense, it's a character flaw of mine...lol..:lol://////........the Ace.....

Patience grass hopper.

I painted the Vettes  interior tub maybe 4 or 5 times before deciding on a color for it.  I had it a couple different variations of tans,,, then  it was all white, then white with orange . Went with a semi gloss black with orange inserts on the seats and door panels

I have to repaint the dash to match . then its embossing powder for the carpet then start final assyembly

Just about have the interior wrapped up. . Decided to forgo the embossing powder / carpet trick. with it being black and in a hardtop you cant see it once its all together.

Doing all the bare metal foil work on the door panels was not fun btw

Thanks Steve,

I had to add some blocks to raise the rear end up a touch as it sat far to low in the rear.

But here is some final mockup pics. Engine is painted and goes in today maybe. Then its button up a few details and I should finally have it  done this weekend . I'm so glad I picked this color. It looks exactly what I had in my inspiration picture .

Thanks for looking in
