Just finished this up last weekend. 1971 Javelin AMX ,built from an old Jo-Han promo. electric blue poly lacquer with Fred Cady Decals. I made the vinyl top(s) with Evergreen strips for the trim and sprayed Model Master semi gloss white, barely thinned, through my airbrush from a distance for the vinyl area. The kit interior is pretty basic, I two toned it and then flocked it. The dash was actually nicely molded and detailed, and was fairly easy to detail paint. Chrome-Tech did a nice job re-chroming the bumpers also. That's all on this one.

And one with the 73 I was building alongside it, I'll post more when I can find time to finish it up.

Super Fine Job Rob!!

I'm an AMC man at heart having once owned a 1:1 '69 AMX.................so I couldn't ignore this one!

AMC had plans continue the 2 seat AMX into 1971 with the new front end and fender bulges, but keep the same body aft of the A pillars. But, AMC saw the writing on the wall as the Muscle Car era was winding down, so it was never to be.

It's too bad there's no equivalent to this car today from an independent like AMC was. It made the automotive landscape that much more interesting back then-------we have so much of a "sameness" in too many cars today. :(

Super AMX's! You sure don't see the 71/72's done very often and your correct vinyl roof sets off this build wonderfully! Well done! And Machine wheels?!!!! Where did you get those?

Thanks for the good words everyone. The wheels actually came on the promo originally, I just painted them up and added SEL tires and lettering decals. I also have a set of the Machine wheels cast by Time Machine Resin, which look identical to those on the model, they sell the later 70's "rallye" style wheels too.

I was fully expecting to have to repaint that shift nob several times, but I got it on the first try with some thinned Model Master semi-gloss white, a long thin brush, and a bunch of luck. BTW Gregg, feel free to stop by at our dio(or whatever we club build) and say Hi, if you go to next years Milwaukee NNL. See ya.

Amen, MrObsessive. AMC cars were unique and kept the US auto scene interesting. I was driving through North Branch yesterday and almost drove off the road when I spotted a '70 Javelin in Big Bad Blue. I've owned two AMC's over the years (a '75 Matador coupe and a '67 Marlin) and I was always pleased with the service I got out of them (still wish I had the Marlin- red with a white top , leather and a 343). By the way, novadose, your Javelin is simply gorgeous.

Wow! That '67 Marlin is a RARE bird! I've got a mint original unbuilt Johan '67

Ambassador kit................I LOVE the '67 Marlins, and was very tempted to cut up the kit to turn it into one.

I don't have the guts though because the kit is so nice! :(

How about this one. I took the pics at my local Hobbytown model contest last Saturday. Nice model, I hovered around this for quite a while and then kept coming back for another look.

That's one sharp looking Marlin. Funny story- the fastback and taillight treatment was originally slated for the American platform, but new AMC pres Roy Abernathy decreed that a larger car be used. Talk about missing the boat completely- the Tarpon, as it was called) would have put AMC in the ponycar race right at the same time as the Mustang. Oops.

I LOVE that Javelin, and the Marlin doesn't look too bad either. I followed the build of the Javelin, and your work really paid off. I was able to get my hands on a '68 promo, and a '74 unbuilt kit. The '68 Promo needs re-doing, as the paint had a big blemish on it, and I do not really care for the color (Green). I grew up near an AMC dealership when I was a kit, and I had a fond appreciation for those cars. If I can get my hands on a dilapidated Marlin (all I need is the roof and deck lid), I may try my hand at the Tarpon, as I have a ratty, but restorable '65 American Hardtop. I was going to do it as a convertible (there was one I passed on my way home from work), but that Tarpon is saying "Build Me!"
