Badluck 13 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Steve your work is second to none, always enjoy seeing your work come alive and the paint work on this one is no exception ..... flawless !!!
StevenGuthmiller Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 I hit the interior pretty hard this weekend, & to my surprise, I finished it! It's amazing sometimes how much you can accomplish if you just put your head down & go! The mods on this one include; Scratch made transparent steering wheel. Cast window cranks. I omitted the console & added a scratch made shifter. Added the factory dash mounted tach The gauge face is an after market piece from a '60 Ford! Embossing powder carpets. I also added a turn signal switch & door lock buttons. I used a combination of foil & Molotow pen for the chrome & it worked quite well. I did discover though that the finish from the Molotow pen is quite fragile. I had to touch up a few things after assembly. The window cranks, door locks, turn signal switch, horn ring & a few dash details were done with the pen. It worked quite well. Steve
kelson Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 That interior is amazing!!.it's a shame the hardtop will cover the work you have done.
Shardik Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 This is looking gorgeous, as usual, Steve.Have you ever done a tutorial on making your transparent steering wheels?
StevenGuthmiller Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 it's a shame the hardtop will cover the work you have done. That's ok. I know it's there. Steve
StevenGuthmiller Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 Have you ever done a tutorial on making your transparent steering wheels? As a matter of fact I have.Unfortunately, I don't know how to post the link here. But if you check my "activity" you'll find it under the heading "Transparent Steering Wheels" back in August of 2016. Steve

disabled modeler Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Simply Stunning...! I am a huge fan of the big old Pontiac cars of the 60s grew up with many of them in our family.
landman Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Gorgeous interior. Is it just me or is the gray made with duct tape?
disabled modeler Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 (edited) Gorgeous interior. Is it just me or is the gray made with duct tape?Pat... I believe its just where the tape was when painting it. Kind of looks like it though..LOL.. I have to find parts for my old Pontiacs and restore them...super sweet paint job on this one. espo Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Beautiful interior. I agree with the others, you might think about removing the top just so you could show off the interior. And thank you to Bill for the link on how you create the steering wheel. I'll be using that trick in the future.

StevenGuthmiller Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 Beautiful interior. I agree with the others, you might think about removing the top just so you could show off the interior. Thanks David! Funny part is, even when I do build the occasional convertible, I'm always looking for an up top for it! I've always just thought that a convertible with the top down is missing something as far as styling goes. So many of these old hard tops had such interesting roof lines. I guess it's all part of the trade off. Steve
MrObsessive Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 I'm a huge fan of uptops too in convertible builds and in fact, I won't build one unless I can get/scratchbuild an uptop for it. I feel the same as you Steve...........convertibles to me are incomplete without their uptops. Let's face it, 95% of the time they're running around with the top up---------right??

I feel the same as you Steve...........convertibles to me are incomplete without their uptops. Let's face it, 95% of the time they're running around with the top up---------right?? I have 9 completed convertibles on my shelf right now. Only 3 of them are built with the top down. That was only because the kits never came with them & I didn't want to mess with scratch building anything. I did modify a '59 Impala top for my '59 Merc though. It turned out fair. Steve
Curt Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Masterful work on the interior, Steve. Your builds are always superb, but the interiors really stand out to me.
espo Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I see everyone point on the top up or down on a convertible. But to myself the whole point in building a convertible is to have an open top, show off the interior, type of build. I personally prefer hardtops and have only built convertible models that are significant to me. I think if the convertible can be displayed in such a way that the top up and the boot cover are interchangeable that would be the best.
highwayman58 Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Steve,That's a great idea on the steering wheel.
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 Thanks everyone! Now it's on to the engine. I'm planning on using the 421 engine from the AMT '62 Catalina kit, as long as it fits. Steve
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 13, 2017 Author Posted March 13, 2017 Hi all! I managed to finish up the engine this weekend! It's the 421 straight from the AMT '62 Catalina kit with a few minor details added. I only added a M.A.D. distributor, a scratch made dip stick & some rudimentary carb linkage. With the engine & interior completely finished & the body only needing a few details completed, I have to be getting close to the finish line. Next up, chassis. Shouldn't be terribly time consuming. I'll just be using the original kit chassis as usual. Steve
DrKerry Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 A lot of beautiful cars in here but the Poncho your building Steve is utterly gorgeous!!!!!!!!!
