I am kinda leaning to something that's not on the average hot rodders list (if they're under sixty years old anyway) the other engine I really like is the Olds out of the Orange crate kit, but with the tri-power stuff from the '50 Olds custom kit, or actually just the dress up parts and headers on the '50's engine, I don't like the idea of a blower on a vintage type street rod or the Olds from the original Stone Woods &Cook kit would be almost perfect, but again the headers aren't really in the mode I'm thinking of, there's also the Revell Cadillac parts pack motor, that just MIGHT be what I'm looking for, and it wouldn't be a Chevy in a Ford, but it ain't a Ford either. And it REALLY wouldn't be another "belly button" street rod.

I'm doing a '29 with a Studebaker engine out of the AMT '53. I'm doing it as kind of a low-buck high school hot rod. Just another idea....

Del......sounds to me like what you need is the J2-like engine from the Revell '50 Olds Custom kit (the second release from that tool, not the first factory stock version). If you aren't familiar with this one, let me know and I can post pictures The other Olds option I like is the 4-71 blown Olds from the Beatnik Bandit kit. It has the same basic block as the Orange Crate, but is setup with a water pump/generator fan belt drive and dual strombergs - both important for street use. TIM

For period Olds engines, I personally prefer the old-tool Revell basic engine (SWC Willys, Anglia and Thames, Orange Crate etc.) mashed up with the 3X2 manifold and front cover / water pump from the AMT '40 Ford, the rocker covers and fan belt assembly from the Revell '50, siamesed-center-port headers made from bits in the AMT '36 Ford, and a top-shift LaSalle gearbox made from parts in the Mickey Thompson Challenger or the Miss Deal funny car kit...

The old-tool Revell engine represents the later NON-siamesed-center-exhaust-port engine design (with 4 header primary tubes), as the one in the SWC Willys started life as a 394. Early series engines had siamesed ports, so this is easily represented by using the 3-port headers for a Pontiac, as shown above.

Another small point is that the factory J2 3X2 engine option wasn't available until 1957, though there WERE aftermarket aluminum 3X2 manifolds marketed not too long after the OHV Olds V8 intro in 1949. I only include these bits of trivia for those interested in historical accuracy.

Five Kits, Bill. That is more than I'd be willing to invest in an accurate OLDs motor.  But, I'm glad you know what parts to use. Rock On.

Just one of the benefits of having a stash of old parts to draw from. I wouldn't go buy all those kits either, but as I've mentioned before, I view old kits as parts-sources primarily, kinda like having a 1/25 scale junkyard on the lower 40. Lotsa folks probably have much of this stuff lying around too.  :D

that should be just about right, I had an uncle that built a '36 International pickup in the late '60s and it had a 289 Studebaker with an auto for power the sad thing is in the late '70s he sold it still running and basically rust free for $75 and the guy drove iit away.

Both of those have a couple of days left, and with a lot of things on eBay everything happens in the last five seconds.  I've seen one of them sell north of $80.  I wouldn't pay that much for one, but like any other eBay listing, throw your top bid in at the last second and see what happens.  It'll be interesting to see what people will be asking for them at NNL East, and if any will be seen in shopping bags as opposed to on dealer tables...

wish I had a LHS that had some... Shoot I just wish I had a LHS.

the one closed for the $30 bid and the $29.95 one hasn't changed with just a few hours left on the clock so I don't think people are quite ready to get taken to the cleaners by those ready to exploit a bad deal.

until Revell says definitely that these won't be returning ever to the line up that people will be willing to pay outlandish collector type prices for them.

?   As of Sunday at 12:45 PM, one's up to $41 and one's up to $51.

This comes up over and over... no one is forced to pay anything; they make the choice to tap that little blue box to bid or buy at whatever price. Seems to me supply and demand has something to do with it...

and, as the man said, most of the action happens in the dying seconds  ;)

'K fellers...the ones on the 'bay went for $64.50 and $53. Not terrible considering the free shipping...if you just HAVE to have one NOW NOW NOW.

the two I was watching closed under $40, one in the middle of the week closed for its opening bid of $30, the other one had a starting bid of $29.95 but finished for $34.81. But there are still some out there on retail shelves and I haven't heard of retailers jacking the prices up......yet. But there will probably be someone somewhere who will not care for their regular customers but feel the pressure for that extra bonus. The smart ones set a case or two back and if the stories about the Chinese seizing the molds are true and these great kits will NOT be seen again (at least as coming from an American company) in just a couple of years they should demand prices that will resemble jewelry instead of plastic models.

How are you guys finding these on eBay? What are you searching by? I am searching "Revell 30 Model a coupe" and all that shows is the Japanese auctions for several hundred dollars. Even searching completed auctions I am not finding the $30 kits mentioned here.

Means the 29 Roadster maybe?  They go for around $30.

As mentioned in a couple posts back, those auctions ended a couple days ago  for $68 and $53...   One of the more amusing Japanese deals on there now is the one for $354.xx buy it now, with free shipping!

As I go through the boxes I moved from the Pod to my garage over the weekend, checking box inventory numbers against my spreadsheets, I've found my two 29 roadster kits, haven't found the 30 coupe yet, but it's out there somewhere...

Wow those prices are gettin' up there. I'm glad I have a fairly nice resin '30 Model A Coupe body to use on the '29 Model A kit.

I'm glad I stocked up on them when they were cheap, after the first feeding frenzy had died down, but before the tooling went MIA.
