Pete68 Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 (edited) While waiting for Decals and other parts for my projects I thought I would start working on this one. I bought the Resin cab last summer from Jimmy Flintstone it's a nice casting. The donor is a dodge L 700 interior, wheels and frame. Hope you enjoy the pics Edited November 20, 2016 by Pete68 Spell check
towman1271 Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 cool little project.. Look forward to seeing the finish
Chariots of Fire Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 That will be a nice piece. Will you be dropping the cab down any on the frame?
Pete68 Posted November 21, 2016 Author Posted November 21, 2016 Thanks guys. I think I might leave it like it is I've already lowered it a lot. I might put skirts on the fenders and put a Diesel engine in it. I don't know just yet, I never liked them sitting low anyway.
gatorincebu Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Looks great thus far ! One of my all time favorite cabs from the 50's. Be Well Gator
Superpeterbilt Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Nice work Lee. I too bought a few of these cabs and was going to use the Dodge as a donor for one, and a Ford C600 for the other. The Flintstone cabs are a lot nicer casting than some of the other 3000 cabs Ive found over the years. As far as the cab height, I have seen a tandem 3000 in a hendrickson susp ad that was sitting kind of high like that. Just call it a White 3000 Hi-mount!
tbill Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 cool project, this should be a sweet little rig when you're done.
Pete68 Posted November 21, 2016 Author Posted November 21, 2016 Thanks guys going good so for. Terry that's what we'll call it a high mount. I've seen that same pic. I was looking around and found this I'm going to try to convert the dodge engine into a white mustang V8
jacobus Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 nice , i have the same cab as youi planning a white freightliner single drive chassis for this onbut now i can look how you make this onfollow itjacobus
Tesla Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Nice project! These were a common site in the 50's
Pete68 Posted November 23, 2016 Author Posted November 23, 2016 Yes they were very poplar back then. My grandpa almost bought a new back then, it was a diesel had a triple nickle cummins in it.
leafsprings Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 (edited) The Dodge L700 is a great donor for this project, but I would pass on the engine, too small, not in the same weight class as the White Super Mustang. I would go with the Ford Super Duty gas engine ( AMT C series tilt cab ), almost indentical in shear bulk. You should be able to use the Dodge manual trans ( probably a Clark or New Process? ) with a little filler putty work . Edited November 25, 2016 by leafsprings
Pete68 Posted November 26, 2016 Author Posted November 26, 2016 Tomthanks for the advice, After I thought about and look more at the dodge engine I started to change my mine thanks for the push in the right direction. Lee
disabled modeler Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Very cool project....I like the older rigs.
redneckrigger Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 The 3000 is one of my favorites.......I built one about 25 years ago, and still have it. Was made from a Rick Manz resin cab that needed LOTS of work, a Dodge chassis, and a kitbashed White flathead 6 cyl. engine. Yours looks superb !
gatorincebu Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 I like that. I always loved those lowslung cab forward trucks . They used a lot of them as aircraft refueling trucks. Be Well Gator
