935k3 Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 (edited) New Caddy for the 24hrs of Daytona IMSA Cadillac Edited November 30, 2016 by 935k3
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 It's good to see the current thinking in race-car aerodynamics interpreted to yield a car that's quite handsome, unlike some of the earlier attempts. I hope it's very successful.
belfast boyo Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Very nice looking car, like the enclosed 'open' wheel look.
The Creative Explorer Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 I defintaly don't dislike it, but it does look not much different than the Audi's, Toyota's and Porsche's. I understand they can't be much different, but put a different sticker on it and it could pass for a Mazda, or a Chrysler or whatever you want to put on it.
935k3 Posted November 30, 2016 Author Posted November 30, 2016 It definitely looks allot like the Porsche 919 LMP1. It looks allot more modern than the Daytona Prototypes it is replacing.
935k3 Posted December 1, 2016 Author Posted December 1, 2016 (edited) Here is a back view of the two cars, it sure looks similar. Top pic is the Cadillac Edited December 1, 2016 by 935k3
Daddyfink Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Would love a kit of this car. Even a curbside would be cool
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 The design of these cars is very highly reliant on CFD (computational fluid dynamics) which, vastly oversimplified, is computer simulated wind-tunnel testing. If both teams are using the same or similar CFD programs (and there just aren't that many state-of-the-art, top-of-the-line CFD software packages to pick from), for the same set of basic parameters, the computer is going to come up with very similar solutions. That means the cars will look a lot alike...just like Can-Am cars had visual similarities because they were all based on the knowledge of aerodynamics of the period. No magic. That's just how it works.
unclescott58 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Does nothing for me. Why is GM doing this with Cadillac? Will this really help increase their customer base? I do hope it gets the young hipsters buying Caddys. Cadillac offers nothing that interests me anymore. Yet they do sell fairly well. So I'm sure this is probably the right way for them to go. I'm afraid I've become an old dinosaur.R. Scott Aho
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 (edited) ... I do hope it gets the young hipsters buying Caddys... I seriously doubt most hipsters give a rat's rear about any kind of racing, much less high-powered, exotic sports-car prototypes. My guess is that the target for this marketing ploy is old farts like me who have enough money to buy one of the production cars (the money angle also leaves hipsters out) and who will understand what an achievement it would be to make a respectable showing at LeMans. Kicking some Euro tail with this thing would make a lot of geezers smile, I'm sure. Hipsters? Well, maybe if it ran on kale. Edited December 1, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
High octane Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 New Caddy for the 24hrs of Daytona IMSA Cadillac Does it have cup holders also?
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Does it have cup holders also? Probably not, but memory-seats for driver changes might be a good idea.
peter31a Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 With that billboard going from the roof to the rear wing I bet they'll be interesting to drive on a windy day.
Dave Ambrose Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 New Caddy for the 24hrs of Daytona IMSA Cadillac That sure ain't yo daddy's Caddy. When do we get a street version?
935k3 Posted December 2, 2016 Author Posted December 2, 2016 Here is a side view. It looks like it's already going 200mph sitting still. There is a story that Jeff Gordon will drive it at the 24hrs of Daytona.Jeff Gordon to drive Cadillac
58 Impala Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Awesome looking ride, hope it does well right out of the box.
