Warren D Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 (edited) I've finally been able to make some progress with this project. I still have some research to do, and maybe some parts to find. This will be my most ambicous truck project to date though the conversion of a 4 door Tahoe to a 2 door K-Blazer had its moments. Here's the project: I have an old AMT Autocar A64B that I built up 30+ years ago that, well, let's just say it didn't come out too well. The cab has been salvaged and stripped and the engine is currently soaking in Super Clean. I have some parts from AITM that include their mixer body and some oversized tires and rims. The old kit will be getting a new nose as well, so lots of things to keep me busy for the winter.I already have a paint scheme in mind, but that might change along the way. Will get to some pics as progress is made. Edited January 24, 2017 by Warren D date
tbill Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 sounds like a cool project, look forward to seeing some progress.
Tesla Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 I look forward to all Autocar builds and I like your ideas for this project.
Warren D Posted December 8, 2016 Author Posted December 8, 2016 One thing I'm still debating is whether or not I can fit a front diff under the engine to make it a 10X10.
Warren D Posted December 20, 2016 Author Posted December 20, 2016 Here is a shot after the dis-assembly: After paint stripping and primer. I couldn't get the Testor's flat black off the frame, so I left it.
gotnitro? Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 Very nice so far ! I am building an Autocar wrecker using the same kit !The flat black acts like a pre shade works perfect under top coat
Warren D Posted December 31, 2016 Author Posted December 31, 2016 The mixer body is well on the way, needs some details, decals and final assembly. The chassis is just about there, i had to move one of the rear axles a little as the original assembly was a bit un-precise. The tires/wheels are soaking in cleaner and have been fit to the chassis. I still have to fit the front fenders and tweak the cab/hood but it's getting close to color.
Superpeterbilt Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Fine work. I never het tired of seeing some Autocars being built.
purepmd Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 (edited) Vey nice rescue / conversion. Really liking the work on this project. Looks great. Edited January 1, 2017 by purepmd

Tesla Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Really nice work! I remember when these were a common site on the road.
gotnitro? Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Outstanding conversion ! did you scratch build the grill /hood yourself ?it really compliments this truck
Warren D Posted January 1, 2017 Author Posted January 1, 2017 Thanks everyone. The hood/grill conversion is from AITM. The front fenders are also Dave's as is the mixer and the wheels/tires.
Mopar - D Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Nice build Warren your mixer looks good with the Autocar.
Warren D Posted January 2, 2017 Author Posted January 2, 2017 The cab/hood and frame are in base coat. Still need to work on some details including fabbing a front bumper. The AITM nose is for the AMT Autocar dump kit, this is the A64B tractor kit and has a different bumper. The interior is back together, just a quick strip and re-paint, I left the dash as it was. I cut the side windows out, I just prefer that look.
Superpeterbilt Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Im sure I have an extra bumper, just let me know.
gatorincebu Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Warren, You certainly are not wasting anytime on this project. And it is looking very good ! Be Well Gator
Warren D Posted January 3, 2017 Author Posted January 3, 2017 Im sure I have an extra bumper, just let me know.PM sent, I'm interested, Thanks!
Warren D Posted January 8, 2017 Author Posted January 8, 2017 Weekly update, the chassis is just about done. I fabbed the front bumper and skid plate and have the tires mounted. Cab/hood and chassis are in final color and have been glossed. Detail painting and decals to go. As I've been focused on the chassis, the mixer body didn't see any progress this week. I still have to clear coat as a prep for the decals which I still have to design and print. The wheels need finish color, too.
