Trying to determine now whether I need to cut this one down a smidge because in some states it could be considered an obstruction but I can't afford to butcher this one. Comments?

In the spirit of the race, theyre not exactly obeying speed limits either, so I reckon leave it as is.

Looking good!

My Subaru BRZ is slowly going nowhere, got stuck on the front lights / bumper & other projects. Hopefully more soon.

Had to bite the bullet and buy a new hood since I butchered my backup that I had to use since I seem to have inadvertently discarded the first one. Sheesh!

The only rules on this are that the car must appear street legal. A hood like that being legal would probably vary state to state, county to county. It really depends on how you view this CBP. Some builders stick with cars that will NOT get them noticed by law enforcement, in the spirit of the race. Others build racers that just scream RACECAR!. I've done both. Build a car that YOU would want to race cross country in. That's really all that matters.

Thanks guys. I guess since its a widebody Camaro it ain't foolin' no Smokies anyway!

I'll keep it as is and hope they're eating donuts when I fly by.

Alright I'm in.  I really can't think of a car I'd like to drive cross country as fast as possible more than this.

I think I'm going to get a PE set and have a project to finish then it will be time to get started

Looking good Bruce. Looks like you're almost at the finish line. Good luck on getting some time to get it finished. David

Here is my May update still a long way to go. Haven't worked on it much all that's done is the exterior painted and the engine bay.

Some seriously cool looking things going on here.

On the occasion of the 10th running of this CPB I must publicly express my gratitude to Jantrix for creating a thread that motivated me to return to modeling after about ten years. I don't build a lot, so most of my completed builds lately have been Cannonball cars. I made my one and probably only trip to GSLMCC XXVI a couple weeks ago where Len Woodruff selected my 2012 Cannonballer for the Bob Barnett Award for custom car building. A humbling surprise. So kudos to Rob and the rest of you knuckleheads who lay out the kind of jolly competition that makes me try a little harder. Thanks guys.

Very happy to hear that Mike. It's deserved I'm sure. We've always had a great bunch of builders in the Cannonball, who continuously innovate and impress, but never losing sight that this is a fun build off. My hats off to all of you.

I'm tired of sitting on the sidelines... I'm finishing up my Nova. And I'm started on my Impala in the Slump Buster... So what better time to throw my hat in the ring.

My Cannonball entry is the Revell 83 Hurst Olds.

I got some ideas that I'm bouncing around... Stay tuned...

Well done Mike.  I remember that build.  I always liked it and it seems i'm not the only one.

Having build some engine mounts on my Caprice I offer the chassis up to the body with the engine in place to find the back of the induction fouling the beaver panel.  I probably should have checked this before I built them.
So, off they came and on went a new set.  Having got the fore and aft position of the donk set I could then rebuild the gearbox cross member I had to slice off to fit the tranny and start to build a tubular K member replacement.
Small steps but its how I like to work.  Lots of builds on the go at which I whittle away slowly until suddenly I realise the deadline is
approaching at which point its panic panic panic all systems go for launch.

Kind words Zen. Thanks, much appreciated. Good luck on your beavers, donks and trannies. B)

The creativity and beauty in this build still amazes me Mike. Very nicely done.

As for me I've got my kit ordered, should be starting it within the week. I wouldn't say it'll be a wild and over the top build but it should be fairly unusual.

Keeping with my trend it will be Mopar powered.

Everything is still in the planning stages, but coming together quite nicely. Biggest issue is trying to corner a set of wheels and tires. Nothing really wrong with the kit ones, just not exactly what I'm after for this build.

I've hit a bit of a snafu. I've designed the chassis to fit the interior cup rather precisely. The problem is, what I thought was the proper location for the interior cup, based on fit, was incorrect as the interior door lines pointed out to me. The result? My axle locations are about 10mm too far forward. Normally I'm a "measure twice, cut once" kinda guy, so this really has me pissed off. Hope to get it fixed this weekend.

Haven't had a lot of time this week to work on anything, especially modeling... Got the body smoothed out, and taped it together this morning. It's ready for primer and that's about it for the time being... hoping to get a little done this weekend or next.

I like where you're going with this. I've had my eye on that kit for a while so I'll be interested in how you work this!

I had a girlfriend with a brand new Cutlass when I was in the military. I loved driving that thing!

Thanks! I see want I want to do in my head. I just hope I can do it justice.

I had an 85... one of the few cars that I wish I had kept.

Got some primer on it... then found a couple rough spots on the hood and roof that needed to be dealt with. Smooth that out. now to sand it down and shoot it again. Hopefully, I can get to that today.

Well I stripped the bodies and picked the straightest one and got it in primer.  Picked out the paint for a 70s two-tone, gonna do a little weathering on the top.  Going more for endurance than drag race, picked up a petty nascar for the heavy duty radiator, trans and rear end coolers as well as the rear end.  Chassis is pretty simple, I'll have to scratch build the steering and braking bits, maybe add air bags to compensate for the additional gas tank (need to do the math on weight/gallons to see what is realistic, sort of). For the stealth factor I'm going for an old college dept van, something that you could explain away the speeding as being a storm chaser or following a radioactive cloud.  And as a bonus Yates tribute 'Yates College', the Latin is sea to shining sea and one red cannon ball for Red Ball Garage...image.thumb.jpg.cfae76577e575b96764632c0image.thumb.jpg.797dbda5660c448adb6c8a3e

Got the interior and chassis painted today... minus the front seats... still have to detail it out.

Gotta get the engine scrounged up and start working on it... stay tuned.

Got a little work in on the chassis today...

Still have a few little details to pick out on it. This folks is a big deal for me. I usually just paint it all black, cuz I never see it...lol

Got a little engine work started last night and this morning.. got some assembly started, primed and painted. I decided to paint this Nassau Blue. It's one of those Testors colors that I love so much...

Well, off to eat and band practice... Stay tuned...

I decided at the last minute, to lower the suspension a little bit...

IMG_20170531_194918057.jpg

As you can tell by the tires, that is about the ride height. And just to be sure I liked it... even though it's too late to change my mind... I decided to sit the body on the frame to check it out...

IMG_20170531_194728408.jpg

Didn't lower it a whole lot, just enough... a tad more muscular.... stay tuned...
