The Cuda is looking great Bruce.

The Jungle Jim ride is awesome Mike.

I have the same Mercedes kit Dominik. I'll be following along to see how it goes together.

A little progress on the Aston Martin.

Engine and chassis are almost done. I have a few more details to add. I sure like the metal transfers Tamiya included with this kit.

Tamiya Gun Metal with 3 coats of clear. Sorry for the crappy picture, lighting is poor.

Wow! Some fast starts out the gate this year!

I'm still in the planning stages with the XLR. I did some sanding to get some initial smoothness to the body before priming and cut the top off and cut the hood out.

Now I'm contemplating what to do about the wheel wells. I cut the wheel wells from the 'Vette body and taped them inside the XLR to get an idea of how I far I need to reduce the size before adding the tubs for the flares.

It's not a whole lot, but it drastically affects the look of the car.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Finally getting started...

I don't have a lot of modern style wheels/tires, and the challenger presents a, well, challenge, because the wheel wells are so darn big, but I'm going this direction (I tried some kidney slots, but all were way too small - Brock's 72 challenger wore a set of these similar mags, only smaller, in some of the photos, so hopefully I'll get the look I want. I'll probably paint them gold centers as well):

Nice choice Erik! You may be able to find some different tires for those rims. Btw, are those the new Pegasus wheels?

Thanks! They are Pegasus. I'll be dropping the car so if the tires still appear small, I'll check into options.

Nice start Eric,

You won't be on the road long enough to wear a tire out,... 35 hrs ....baghh  keep the lo pro s

Started on the interior...

And the door panels,....

There are rumours of a new driver,....looks a little ghostly right now

5E00E310-7B64-4DD7-BF34-108502C70FC1_zpsI will be entering with this, the AMT the fast and furious Toyota supra. There will be lot's of changes made like removing the exhaust and turbo system and the intake system for better power makers but more on that later.

Here is the box top.

I picked this kit up in a garage sale for $5.00 with the decals and the *gasp* paint missing. It was some what started as the chassis was sprayed in primer the engine was glued together and a few pieces where removed from the plastic sprues.

I will be changing the wheels to these

More updates to follow..... hopefully.

Clean up in the body and gutting the interior - so cleaning it up too. The back seat is separate making a delete option a lot easier

Still not 100% on these wheels yet - I ordered some slightly bigger rubber and I am going to strip the chrome (poorly done anyhow) and add those pesky bolt lug things...

Very nice choice Dominik!! Definitely some exotics this time around!

i agree! love the cuda and your Aston.

i have not planed, to make a "big" wip. in the meantime, i glued the Frame, Interieur and painted them. (Pictures will follow) it fits not as good as a new, a Little bit lousy...

@‌Dennis: i must take a look at my XLR (interesting, as you build it) and Corvette, how it could fit. I have not planed, to cut out the Hood! thats cool!

Guys, I'm sorry I've been away for a while. Between the move, the job hunt, interviews, and my internet provider proving to be incompetent, it's been a full couple of weeks. I'll be back on soon and starting my build, and getting the roster caught up.

Happy building!

Excellent choice. I'm glad you are modifying the intake. If you look at the instructions carefully, you can see that the twin turbos are plumbed backwards. I was able to use the engine for the sleeper Cannonball, but it took some innovation to make it work.

Erik, great wheel choice. That should do nicely.

Looking good Bruce.

I would like to join this I don't think anyone else has done it. I was thinking the Revell Police Impala or an old Robo-Cop Taurus. I can't find the Taurus so the Impala it is. I paid $2 from Hastings when they closed down. I think it would be a good one for a stealthy cross country run!

Here's my proposal. The 1:1 Impala is a competent highway cruiser, a regular front drive, V6 bland-mobile. You see them at every all -you-can-eat-buffet, rest home and government office in every town.
This is the type of car that tells everyone, "Hey I'm practical transportation!" The 3.8 engine can put out around 400 reliable non-turboed hp with stock internals. That kind of hp in a front drive can be a handful, but for flat out interstate use it should work quite well. There are also big brake options and suspension parts available that can be made to fit.
My ideas for paint? Well, black is an obvious choice.  But is it too obvious? It practically screams, "Don't look at me, I'm being stealthy over here!"
The other option is Grandma Gold, the official color choice of retirees and rental car fleets the country over. If that color could talk it would be saying, "Pay no attention to me dear, I'm on my way to Walmart and then on to bingo!" The problem with this color is that it's sooo boring and may not translate well to 1:25th scale.
My inspirations are the ICON ex-DEA Caprice  https://www.google.com/amp/www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/amp30507/icon-chevy-caprice-build-process/?client=safari and this Grandma hand-me-down turned canyon runner. http://www.carscoops.com/2016/08/this-modified-240hp-38-litre-chevy.html?m=1 Probably going to keep the push bar and add an LED light bar and some Cibies, maybe even a Thule roof rack, and plenty of antennae on the outside. It'll need radios and sat coms and computers and detectors. Inside she'll need comfy seats for long hours behind the wheel. Big wheels, tires and brakes, but nothing too flashy. Maybe 1/25th scale AAA and AARP and "My kid is a good citizen at Polk Elementary!" stickers for the back.
Probably just a curbside build, as I can't find a donor for the chassis.

Wow! You folks have been busy builders. Very nice work and progress!

I still haven't made my decision yet. So torn between the Gremlin and F-50. . . .

That ICON Malibu is the way to go. That's mean! With your take on it of course.

That Supra kit looks pretty cool - be a great x-country run.

Still hacking on the Challenger wheels - the toy like spindle on the Pegasus wheel is too long, so I made a quick jig to cut the appropriate amount of material off and have each wheel with the same amount removed.

%5BURL=http://s966.photobucket.com/user/erikmsmith/media/102CB676-15B4-4075-8505-F3EAD359EF10_zpshcvvcmir.jpg.html]

then I just glued the separated ring back to the main wheel

I also managed to find a possible tire - from the Revell Porsche 918 (which look too thick on that car) - original Pegasus on left, Porsche 918 on right - ends up same height as original Challenger tire combo

Why not adapt a modern Camaro chassis and engine? I'll be doing something similar on my Mopar.

Thanks Rob and everyone else and I see what you mean as I went back a checked out your build which convinced me to just scrap the whole system from the block back as there is no way for me to keep it and be ok with it.

So I have a vary small update, I have been doing a lot of research on these cars and for some reason AMT has put a brace on the driveshaft that dose not exist.

so I decided to remove it.

and fill it in.

So while that dried I set about taking the engine apart and who ever had this kit before me did a good job gluing the engine together as I broke all of the locator pins on the oil pan and the sump pan.

after that I set about taking care of the sub frame injector pin marks but the sun was going down so unfortunately no pictures of that but when I get some more sun and the frame and the axle are out of primer I will take some pictures and post them up.

Pretty cool stuff going here. I enjoy seeing what all you knuckleheads are crafting. I've done nothing on the Vette in a month. My bench has been occupied with building three adult Pinewood Derby cars for the annual VFW Derby for the Vets, a benefit that raises money for special requests from the local VA hospital. I'll be updating this thread after this weekend. My GF wants to enter a car and asked me to carve a dog. Challenging but so far so good.

Everybody's looks great so far. I've started on the 330, but I have been busy with school and work, along with building an engine for my 90 Astro, so I've not touched the workbench for probably 3 weeks. Last thing I remember doing was starting the roll cage and screwing up the front suspension. Once the van is finished I should have some bench time.

Hey Guys

I'd love to join this build! All the builds so far are really cool & creative!

I entered the first Cannonball run back when it was on Scale Auto (not sure of the history surrounding why its here & not there now, I only found this forum last year, but a quick look back reveals that its the same group)

Thoroughly enjoyed it, it was my first community build, & i've tried to do one every year on differing forums. Always an enjoyable way to build!

Heres my 08 Entry - Brabus SLR

Picture013.jpg

This time, with it being open rules. Ive decided to go with a Subaru BRZ, modified of course.

Perfect car for a cross country road race, lightweight, economical, plently of power (once I add the turbo) comfy & Badass!!!

617FD4E1-FAD6-4E36-B3F4-45E645890DAC.jpg

I'll be adding Eightyones Rocket Bunny 86 bodykit, thier BRZ Bonnet with WRX scoop + the RB V2 spoiler. It'll also have a top mount intercooler & turbo system.

Updated interior & wheels, Other mods will include Larger driving lights, bigger fuel tank etc.

Colour TBC but not blue....

Stay Tuned!

Ash
