Thanks Jeremy and Carl. I'll be back at this one again tomorrow morning.

After letting it dry out over the weekend. I've got a couple of boo-boo's to straighten out with it still but they aint too big of a project.

Hello Joe, I built this kit way back in '77 when it was released. Don't remember if I thought it looked weird at the time. I built it and the '66 Malibu for the Swedish importer of Monogram kits, as display items. The Camaro was painted Pactra Candy Indian Turquoise, and the Malibu some red metallic. Didn't have any fancy camera at the time, so I never took pics. Would have been cool to see now. You are doing a great job restoring this kit! I was amazed at how good it looked with nice paint, It was like a different body, the bad proportions somehow disappeared!

Now that the engine is built, I guess you can't change or fix the intake manifold... it needs to sit much tighter against the heads and block. Something to think about on another engine assembly. Nice detail drilling out the valve cover bolts! Now that you have lettering on them, they will line up properly. The valve covers have three bolts on the top, and four on the bottom. I've seen some builders install them upside down....

I haven't been on the forum for a few years, and this build caught my interest. Have had thoughts of buying this kit, and improving it. Look forward to seeing it finished.

I still like the way the paint work is coming along Joe. I think your doing a fantastic job turning this old goat of a kit into a prince of a ride my friend.

Thanks Hans. Yeah I had the original intake on there and it actually looked worse! lol . Some of that'll be hidden by the wiring harness. I've got the bolt patterns right on the rocker covers. Spent waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many years as an auto tech to miss that one. Thanks for all the comments and the constructive comments Hans.

Progress is slow as I've got a lot going on right now. My sister in law threw a connecting rod right through the side of the engine block on her Toyota so I've been working on that and fixing some of the other stuff that's wrong with the car. She's hell on wheels with automobiles. Just drives 'em till they quit (and it doesn't take that long)

N E ways.............

I've got the alternator wiring harness and throttle return spring installed this morning. I've also been working on the heater hoses and retaining clamps for those.

Nice work on the engine detail Joe. I know what you mean about so much going on.The wife and I have been swamped with work on our house these past few weeks trying to get all the little detail issues fixed so it is ready to sell. The realtor came by and listed it before I even felt we were ready so now gotta bust back sides to get those little things done before he shows it.

I concur, that is some excellent detailing.  :)

Thanks Mike.

Preciate the good word from you as well Jim. Sorry to hear the blues on the house. Typical stuff in the world of real estate.

Ok folks. I believe that the 396 is done enough to where I'm going to put it in the chassis and get started on the exhaust system. I temporarily installed the center section of the fan on the front of the front just for picture taking purposes and will remove it so I can use it on the backside of the other fan I have for a future build. N E ways..............here she is:

And this one I throw in for all my friends at work. They always tell me that I have a giant clothespin hanging out in my garage. :giggles:

Wow... Thought that was the real deal there at first... Nicely done, Joe.

I'm gonna box up a couple engines and send them to you for an overhaul.

Thanks Adam, Jim and Jeremy. Sometimes I wished that I could just stop at building engines as its my favorite part of auto builds..................hell it's my favorite part of aircraft builds as well for that matter. lol

I installed the engine / xmsn assy this morning and checked out the stance again with the spare body in place. I should be receiving my silver bearing solder in the next day or so and will get started on the exhaust system.

Looks like it's back to sanding and polishing and all the piddly stuff from here. Still need to drop 'er in the back a smidgen ................

Thanks Dave. I appreciate that. I spent this morning and will be spending more mornings wet sanding and polishing the body out. Hopefully I can wrap that part up by the end of the week so I can start working on exterior trim and details.

Well folks here's a weeks worth of applying bare metal foil and painting details on the body. I should have sanded those door key bezels off and used the PE ones I've got but hey, I'll chalk it up to a learning experience. I'm very happy with the outcome of the paint on this one so far.
