Just curious as I have a project waiting in the wings to get started on but does anybody offer any aftermarket engines options for Dune Buggy's/Meyer's Manx kits??

You could install a Porsche 911 engine or a Porsche flat 4 from a 356 kit.  Fujimi is the best I know of for each but maybe a bit pricey.

There's also Corvair engines. One's in the commonly available AMT '69, and there's another in the AMT Parts Packs. These were only available in 2-engine sets with something else more desirable (was it the early Hemi?), so there are probably quite a few of them floating around unused.

The revell gypsy kit has some empi parts that could be used on a dune buggy such as the exhaust and carbs, and I think it has a corvair engine option (been a while since I looked at mine) the tyres are horrid 2 part things though and the tamiya beetle has a really nice chassis and engine but it's 1/24. There was some resin empi wheels on ebay early last year but I havent seen them in a while. If you want a later vw engine the 1/25 camper/magnum pi bus has a type 4 engine but you will need to scratch up some heads and get the carbs from some other kit as most of it is hidden in the bus so they didn't do the whole engine. If you're after an earlier engine the hasagawa kubelwagen has a nice engine and sand tyres that would maybe work but it's not very common and pricey when you find one.

A chrome turbocharged Corvair is also available in the Competition Parts Kit, which includes a Hemi, a SBC, a Pontiac, and an Allison V-12, plus a T-bucket body to build an altered drag car.  They are still available but are beginning to gain the "collectors" price tag.
