Been working on the interior today.

This I'm proud of...this is the third shift knob decal that I have been able to install correctly without loosing one!

Thanks guys!

Mike, the decal for the shifter ball was a bit of a challenge trying to keep the decal on the ball straight and not to lose it to the shop gremlins who like to steal things that go flying through the air or fall on the floor!

David, I use embossing powder for carpet.  Paint the floor pan with watered down glue, sprinkle the embossing powder on and let it dry.  Paint it the color you want for the interior.  Looks better than flocking and less messy with no fibers floating all over the place.

Bill, the seat decals come in the kit.  I used some setting solution to get the decals into the seat back bottoms.

I found a goof in the instructions.  It said to paint the oil filter #65 white and apply decal #26 to it.  Decal # 26 is also white and it will not show.  I removed the oil filter and painted it a dark blue which is cirrect for that era.

I made a tachometer for the steering column out of bits and pieces here in the shop.

FYI on the oil filter. Chevrolet still used the PF141 filter inside a black canister into the mid sixties. I like the Tach. Thank you for the carpet info. I have used that method before but it just didn't turn out as nice that's why I asked.

Yeah, I found out from someone that the filter was suppose to be a black canister with the filter inside.  Too late to change anything now as the filter has been repainted and the decal put on.  Once the engine is mounted in the chassis, who's gonna know?  Except me...and anyone else who reads this...LOL

There was a kit that came out in the '60's to adapt a spin on filter for the Chevrolet engines with the canister style filter. You would remove the oil pressure relief valve that mounts between the filter housing and the engine block. This was replaced by the adapter to which the spin on filter mounted just like the way it has been done ever since. So you can say you have retrofitted your engine with the updated spin on filter.

Yep and oil changes were a lot less messy afterwords too.

Great job so far. I really like the color choice.

Well, Ma Mopar is mad at me!  A Ford backed into me today when I was leaving City Hall.  I hope that this isn't a sign of things to come!

Other than touchups, painting the trans, and putting on the air cleaner, the 409 is done!

I figured that the best way for me to paint the trim with gloss white paint was like a pin striper.  I loaded up a small brush with paint and ran the brush along the trim molding and then wipe off the excess with a paper towel.  This worked rather well and looks better than the kit decals.

I clearcoated the Impala this morning.  A few more coats of clear and then on to polishing.
