Gregor Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 (edited) Last year I was fortunate enough to get my first Mopar Muscle Car. So I decided to build a model of it. Come to find out there is no mass produced 70 Dart kit. Found out that Bandit Resins makes a 70 Dart Body. Had to get the Revell 68-69 Dart as a donor car for the chassie, engine, glass, and interior. Working with the Resin was quite a challenge and I had a hard time getting paint to adhere to the plastic. Yes I did wash the parts thoroughly before the lacquer primer went on. Had to respray parts of the body several times. Did the best I could. It is a good copy of my real car except the engine. My car has a 360 not a 340 as the kit does. espo Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Your build looks dead on. Turned out great. I have used a couple of Resin bodies and experienced the same paint issues you described. There are many here with far more experience and I'm sure they could offer many tips on painting Resin parts. What has worked for me is after the normal clean up is to use automotive type self etching primer so the final coats of paint have something to hang on to. Another thing to think about is if you are doing any sanding at all this should be done away from the other parts and then cleaned and primed before you start working with the plastic portion . It is possible to contaminate the plastic if you have any of the sanding dust on your hands from the Resin.
Bob Ellis Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 I agree , automotive primer after a good cleaning makes the paint stick to resin. I use 0000 steel wool as well to rough the surface
cobraman Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Very sharp. May I suggest a black wash on the wheels ? May help to bring out the detail.
Snake45 Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Regardless of your problems, you did a great job with it. Improvise, adapt, overcome! Well done and model on!
philo426 Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 They don't come out much nicer than that!Excellent job!
