Wide whites in 66?    Not that I can remember.

I wish they'd done some corrective work on the grille.

But I am very glad to have a Suburban finally.

I'm thinking this kit is very similar to the pickup kits already out and if so, then the recent release of the AMT/MPC GMC Deserter 4x4 pickup should be a perfect donor for the 4wd version I have planned.

Yes, I will buy it. The question now is, what am I going to do with the resin Suburban I got?
I can see that built as a hauler for a small race team with lots of parts and tools in the back and a trailer behind it:)

Wide Whites past 1962 are just plain wrong ! Customised or otherwise --- but that's just my opinion . They just look wrong and out of place on post-1962 vehicles .

I agree ! Now , where's the GMC version ? We need a "big block" GMC V6 !

Revell has had the same tires in all previous versions of the 64-66 pickups exept for maybe the california wheels edition. I do think it would be possible to paint the whitewall insert black and one could also put the tire on the other way so that the white wall is on the inside. Having painted it black, I don't think one would see it.

So, how difficult would it be to convert this kit to a panel truck?

I'm going to hazzard a guess here and say that all you need to do is fill in the rearsidewindow openings.

I also have an R&R resin and I think it might be best to quickly list it on eBay and hope someone doesn't know what Revell is doing! :P

Just looking at the photos of your nicely finished model and the Revell model above,  you can see R&R missed a few details.  No fuel door on the left side, no visible hinges on the rear doors.  And they missed the pronounced roof ridge right behind the front doors. It's there but much too faint.

I have the  original issue 64 "Fleetside"( tooling design makes it more Cameo) and 2n1 65 Stepside of this tooling

The 64 & 66 had the smaller white wall insert tires as in the 59/60 Impala kits

The 65, and the Suburban looks to be the same, had the larger BF Goodrich Silvertown's

from the 59 Cadillac kits

I believe the sidewalls were bare in the 2n1 I have

I need to look again, but need to Find the tires as I replaced those with

Rubber Firestone Gum Dipped Darlington's (AMT Turnpiker series and some early 60's kit issues!!)

I also stretched the frame and went Dually as this build got the Open Road Mini Motorhome body

from the Model-King Deluxe Parts Pack kit!!

The Deserter would be good for a non stock 4x4 conversion. However, for a correct to stock 4x4, about the only usable parts would be the axles, the rest would be inaccurate.

Looking at the picture Art is sharing from the show, and something just didn't look 100% with the side windows. They seem to short by just a little bit. Looking at the picture Crazed had of a '62 1:1 confirmed it. To my eye it looks as if the side windows are just ever so much shorter than the 1:1. This would not be enough to keep me from buying some as this should be an easy fix. I like the wheels with the slightly deeper offset. The white walls should be the narrow style but again easy fix if you're going to use white walls. Just think of what the California Wheels version is going to be like.
