Mr mopar Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Cobra Racing Team (Shelby Cobra &’53 Ford Pickup & Trailer) #1072 Just seen this on round2 web site .
russosborne Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Very interesting.I'd be getting rid of the Cobra and adding maybe a Mustang funny car/altered, but looking forward to it being released.I don't remember the original, when was it released?Russ v
The Junkman Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Now if they would just massage the Cobra body a bit (USRRC/FIA) or better yet spring for a new mold. The original/current is of 1963 vintage. Even the engine is a Ford 260 rather than a proper 289.
michaelbaskett Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 (edited) Just a matter of time until you see the 64 Galaxie / 65 Falcon Funny Car Combo too I suspect.... Edited June 15, 2017 by michaelbaskett wrong numbers
Mr mopar Posted June 15, 2017 Author Posted June 15, 2017 I would love to see this one come back figures crossed !

I don't remember the original, when was it released? Russ v Just a matter of time until you see the 69 Galaxie / 65 Falcon Funny Car Combo too I suspect.... ....if memory serves, that Cobra set was out late in 1969 and around for but a year or so.....oh, and Michael....the 65 Falcon A/FX combo had the 64 Galaxie Craftsman as the tow car in the set...and I'll betcha we see that set again, and the 68 Shelby/ 69 Galaxie too....I think this Cobra/ 53 Ford p/u combo on deck will be the test pilot to see if bringing back the other race team sets is financially viable for them, as they will be pricey and if the Cobra combo sells well then all of us are surely to keep getting the releases we so much would like to see. However, keep in mind that just a couple years back they reissued the 53 Ford p/u in its original format, and the Cobra a year or so earlier, and both kit's as we know have been out many times, so I'm not certain that this one will fly off the shelves at retail prices....lets hope so...the Ace...

Muncie Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 I like this Cobra and pickup set - I'm hoping this goes over really well and we get to see some new combinations along with the old favorites... that would be fun!
AC Norton Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 I would like To see the Indy drag combo reissued. Yep, most of us would, however the Nova wagon is the problem....to restore it to it's stock form would be expensive for Round2, and its doubtful they would cough up to retool and start again making a completely new piece .....I've often thought this set could have the Nova wagon substituted using say, the 65 Chevelle wagon, or the 65 El Camino with the camper.....say with similar art work on the box, and I think this set could still be quite new and exciting again.....the Ace...

mr68gts Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 On Omni Hobby's there showing Richard Petty Dart and transport team #1072 DIdn't think this one could ever be reissued because of King Richard. Rumor that it was quite rare since he didn't pull his car with no stinkin FORD? and had AMT pull them. I actually have an original minus the decals and the reissue of the individual kits that I was going to combine to build them and put them together. Lots of pissed off collectors over this one I bet lol. Me? I am glad they are reissuing it. Maybe people will quit buggin me for mine lol and now I can build it too!
mr68gts Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 (edited) I would love to see this one come back figures crossed ! We know the Shelby Mustang minus the clear hood is still around but does the Galaxie still exist? Edited June 15, 2017 by mr68gts
Mr mopar Posted June 15, 2017 Author Posted June 15, 2017 I believe it dose .....last time I seen it looked like this !
mr68gts Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 (edited) Oh I didn't realize it was reissued! Interesting. So as long as the tooling for the trailer is still around then it should be good to go! Hmm.... Of course it's probably the same trailer int he Cobra set I assume?Paul Edited June 15, 2017 by mr68gts
disabled modeler Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Id love to see them bring back the old race team sets with that trailer..need a couple of them for a project. Wonder if we could get lucky enough to see the ones with the early 70s Ford 2wd pickups too..?

Of course it's probably the same trailer int he Cobra set I assume? Paul The 68 Shelby team set has the larger, tandem trailer , where the Gran Prix Cobra and pickup set has the early single axle trailer like in some the early issue AMT Corvette kits, and in the Fireball 500 kit. The smaller trailer is very retro and basic in design, but many racers used trailers similar in the era.....hope this helps...the Ace....

Edsel-Dan Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Petty DID drive a Ford Torino in 69 due to MoPar's refusal to let him change from Plymouth to Dodgein order to drive the DaytonaMoPar caved in 70 giving him the Superbird to get him back There Were Ford C cab Box vans at Petty Enterprises for a few years after 69I have soem Pics. As for the L series of the kitNo IdeaPlus Petty had gone to Enclosed trucks,Not Semis like now, but Straight trucksThe City Delivery/Short Haul L & C Ford kitsSome Did carry the carSome towed the car on a flat trailer with a Cover over itThe Tandem trailer shown in some of these set kits is close I use to go to Dover Downs, so HAVE seen this First hand too!!
AC Norton Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Must be a reissue of this one, Wow!! Does anyone know when they are releasing this set.....I also checked the Round2 site and it lists a stock number and such, but no photo....thanks in advance...the Ace....
Mr mopar Posted June 15, 2017 Author Posted June 15, 2017 Tower hobbies is say late OCT for the Cobra team and Late Nov for Petty team car/transporter.
