I began this one, like most of my builds, quite a while ago and just recently figured that I didn't have much lift to do on it. So, up to the front of the line.

Got another coat of primer on it this morning and just finished the third coat of paint. Got a bit of trash on the bed cover that I will sand out tomorrow and hit again.

I shot a couple of light coats of Dul-Cote on the wheels to take down the shine. I may need to hit the top of the spokes with some silver type of paint to get them more like the stock look.

Really a relatively stock build. Just looking to finally get it done.

Always had mixed feelings about this kit, but your rendition is looking pretty good so far. I don't think I've ever seen anybody do this one in white.

Forgot that AMT used the '92-style non-airbag steering wheel for about a year too long- I think they finally updated it with the '95 long bed F-150 annual kit.

Thanks Vince and Chuck. It's a pretty nice kit that goes together very easily. I modeled this one after one a guy I used to work with had. Never done a vehicle in white so it will fit nicely with my other builds on the shelf.

I never noticed that the steering wheel was the older style. Good catch.

More progress tomorrow.

This maybe the first time I've seen this kit built!,any plans to build the 99'lightning and post them side by side?.

Ok. So major overlook on my part. I started this year's ago and just picked it back up and NEVER noticed that the 1:1 Lightning did not have the body molding. How did I overlook that?

So I shaved the moldings and then coated the area with liquid cement and resanded to prevent ghosting. Here is where I'm at now.

Today's progress report.

Got the body primed but have a couple of small touchups to do and need to clean up the door lines.

The chassis is done and I had added scratch built traction bars.

I have been trying to come up with a good paint mix to make the wheels appear more like the 1:1. I think other than hitting the nuts with a chrome pen and the caps with a dot of black I am calling these done.

This morning I hit the turn signals with some R/C  candy yellow and the headlights with a light coat of unstirred Pontiac engine blue. The grille is just sitting in place for the photo.

Thanks for looking. I should be able to finish this in the next couple of weeks.

Got the wheels detailed today.

Added some exhaust tips.

Worked a bit on some details on the engine. Been doing some of the small things while waiting for primer to dry. I found a few more spots to smooth out before painting. I always hate doing bodywork the second time around.

Good looking Lightning you have going. I posted a black one in Underglass August 30. I built several years ago. I don't remember removing the side trim, but apparently I did (CRS) age I guess!! I also painted the wheels, the chrome was not correct and just too much. Fun kit to build. At one point I was thinking about building all three colors. Maybe someday.

Update time! I've made some decent progress over the last few days. Got the body painted and cleared. I don't figure I'll polish it because I've never seen one of these as a show truck.

I removed the headlights and painted the buckets with a bit of light silver to add a bit of depth. Then I installed the grille and touched up the black on the bumper molding. I also painted the door handles. Still need to do the window frames and tailgate handle. I also installed the rear bumper.

I added a bit more detail to the engine and got the driver's side spark plugs wired.

Still waiting on a firewall to come from a guy off of FB. Should be here tomorrow. Then I can get it painted and installed and finish up the detail painting on the body. I will also try to get the wheels assembled tomorrow.

Today's update-

Got the wheels installed and made quite a bit of progress on the small details. Taillights installed,  most decals installed, cut some thin sheet aluminum to put the license plates on for a little added thickness. Got the handles painted.

Tom, I don't know how this is going to post. The way it looks as i'm typing. Its as if this is being added to your post. If You noticed. I didn't use the rear bumper on my build (in my opinion) the tube bumper is just hideous some people like it some don't. I know they were on the real Lightnings, but they look like they belong on a 4x4 not a sleek pickup.

Thanks guys.

Mercman- yeah, I agree with you. Not sure what they were thinking. However, since I had no other rear bumper, I went with it.
