Believe it or not this was a contest winner in 1993 it placed first in the custom class. I want to restore it and compete in the Customs class this year for it's 25th year anniversary. It's had a rough 25 years but remains original. I want to reinvent this and make it current.

I am open for suggestions

Thanks, and I look forward to everyone's input...

Thanks, yeah I don't want it to get out of hand. I was doing some researching on salt flat studebakers and they are some pretty detailed builds. I like the idea of BMF, not something I was thinking about but around the windows I think will be a nice detail. What engine/trans combo should I go with?

Well she spent the night in the "Dunk Tank" and here's the result. Down to the basecoat... 20180104_095428.thumb.jpg.92f3d32f6b57410cbd0cba7d0d41eebb.jpg Still alot of work ahead but I hope it progresses rapidly. Thanks for looking...

Check out this Jewel I picked up today at the local hobby shop. I'm gonna build me a gasser! Soon as finish the salt flat car... the tinted glass will be used on the re-build as well as some of the other parts from the new kit.

Ok so that was harder than I thought it would be but I guess I'm a little rusty. Body work will cover it and you'll never know it. I was reluctant to show my Frankenstein work but Hey, I'm not gonna hide my skills or lack there of lol! At least my wheelwell is where I want it... Thanks for looking

Ya know Anthony, it's kinda too bad you've already started on this project.

It would have been cool if you had kept this one the way it was and started with the fresh kit.

That way you could have displayed them together as kind of a "then and now" display.

That is exactly what I thought when I bought the new kit. I was even thinking about the fade on the new kit. Had I'd known that I'd get the new one I would've done it too. Although I can't imagine the old kit being much competition in the contest. It was rough, still is... but It's getting better.

I've mostly finished the wheelwells... with the exception of body work... I'm just waiting to do all that at once.

I may or may not be doing one last body modification, I'll see how that goes once I get the firewall moved back. I really didn't think It would be difficult to keep it from "Snowballing" but it's really taking off now.

Mama always said "if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say nothing... I hope that isn't the case here guys. Anyway, It's slow goin but I'm moving the firewall back to possibly house two engines. I've been informed that I should remove the front clip for display. I'm on the fence about that detail but I could be persuaded... to do or not to do? Thanks for looking. I know it's boring but keep watching it'll get better I hope... lol.

Alright, so I couldn't help but see if I could get the quarterpanels sorted out. So I laid down some filler and surface primer... I use this primer because it is kinda thick and drys relatively hard so you cand sand on it and smooth the surface pretty easily... I'm enjoying the work goin on here and It's rewarding to see it come back from uncertainty. More as the world turns. Thanks

I'm moving on now, if I wait too long to deside usually I'll reach a stopping point and there's no time to stall.

"Say goodbye to my little frontend" I'll make mounts to re-attach it later.

For now I need to start closing the firewall in and fabbing my full roll cage.

Thanks for looking!

Back for another quick update... I've been sanding away on the front clip... after making the hood and fenders all 1 peice I filled the seams and smoothed it all to look like a fiberglass frontend. I hope it goes this well from here on out.20180109_150308.thumb.jpg.6d67c15dffa581d72bbde61bb238fa42.jpg

Really love salt lake racers.  Keep at this one, I know it is going to be a beauty.  You mentioned the possibility of two engines, what do you have in mind?

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I haven't pinned down exactly what engine (s) I will go with but I was thinking about 2 GM V6s with twin turbos on each or 2 slant 6 cylinder Mopar engines... any suggestions? I'm still not sure what to do... This thing is really leading me instead of the other way around.

I think the wheel well idea is enlightening!! It really makes it

look awesome Tony!  This is gonna be cool!!

And a Frankenstein analogy is way wrong sir, he never got his

scars covered up so nicely by styrene putty!?!

More boring body work to do. I'll be back later...

Well guys I took off a week to finish up a few projects one being the Club challenge and then my son and I did a couple of build offs. But I'm glad to report I have finished up the bodywork and will be back in high gear on this build. I designed the decals and printed them today so that really gets me inspired to jump back on it. Here they are...obviously not all the decals are gonna go on the Studebaker but when printing decals you have to fill the page completely up as not to waste the materials... anyways, thanks for your patience...

A sneek peek at what decals are going on the car "Speed of Light" will be on the quarter panels as with a twist I desided to tie in the Loewy name... Raymond Loewy is famous for the 53 Studebaker.  The car will officially be named "Speed of Loewy" however you will be able to see the Light behind the Loewy name...

104 Octane booster was the only sponsor on the original build so I desided to add it to the Sponsorship on the build agian.

The car is gonna be a phantom racer as if Raymond Loewy's Grandson would've became a Bonneville salt flats driver. Loewy's only daughter (Laurence) had a son she named Jacque so I gave the driver the name Jack, "Jack Loewy" as the driver on the door. Here is a pic of the decals separated from the sheet, The car will be white with stars on top and sides with the red stripes around them, it's gonna be USA themed. Thanks for looking...
