Two things, I believe most of the early "289" cobras were red, black, or yellow. The yellow car referred  to in this post, not only had flares on the rear, but also had "spats" on the front. I'm not as well versed on cobras as some, I do think these two facts need to be brought to light.

I was surprised to see that trailer in the kit, too. But I think I know why it's there.

The Fireball 500 kit is currently available,so they just molded a few extra trailers while production is in  progress. I used to work in a factory that molded plastic. It's just a way to cut costs.

One thing that is for certain, not many  racing cobra's  are exatly  the same.  As  AFX    stated in another post ,  the race cars where constantly  changing and evolving .  this Cobra does have rear flares only  and i don't see  front spats  on any picture i can find.   It  does have front  air ducts for brakes and  Halibrand wheels  ,  both  available from  HRM.     A rear  flare would not be to hard to  fabricate.

The only colors available on a Cobra in '63 were red, white or black.  The Allen Grant car is chassis CSX2128 which was one of the Shelby team cars in '63 before being sold on to Grant.  He repainted it yellow and added the distinctive graphics.  Shelby added the rear flares to allow larger tires to be mounted.  To comply with the FIA rules of the day, the fender spats were added behind the front wheels.

 Image result for cobra csx2128

I built the sister car CSX2127 from the AMT kit including adding the rear flares.

I've been hunting to see what the past releases of this kit looked like on line. I can find nothing on them. Is this a true reissue? Or is it something new? One thing that goes against the grain, if this was issued in the past, is the choice of the trailer. Other than the Piranha Drag Team, all other two vehicles and trailer combination sets came the old AMT service trailer. The Piranha Drag Team did come with the same trailer as the Fireball 500 kit. But, this the only time I've seen that trailer with another kit. All the others had the service trailer. So what's the deal with this kit? Why can I find no information on past releases of it? And if it was issued in the past? What trailer did it come with?

Thank you for the link on the trailer. But, it still doesn't answer my basic question. Was the Cobra Race Team released in past, and if so, what trailer did it come with? The other thread on the trailer indicates that the new release may have the right trailer with it. But, does it? Again, it doesn't match up with what was offered with similar combination kits, other than the Piranha Drag Team.

Is this a true reissue? *snip*

It's very true to the original release, but it's not an exact copy. The trailer is the same as found in the original issue.

I'm pretty sure that the double axle trailer can be turned into the pictured with the Allen Grant car quite easily. Revell's Ford pick-up of that era can be used instead of the AMT pick-up.  Beside the numbers and the black stripes though,  I just wouldn't know where to get those Coventry Motors decals ?

Hi Pete,

a German slot racing website has them - they say "decals for the Cobra and tow vehicle !

Here is the link:   http://www.slotracing-werk.de/decals/cobra-roadster-289-santa-barbara-1963.html

Yes, the exact same trailer. I had the original kit back in the day. See the Casey post above.

Is there any evidence verifying that Shelby American used a 53 Ford pickup to tow their race cars?

Allen Grant was a privateer, not part of the factory Shelby team - if that matter to anyone.

Are the HRM Hallibrand wheels 1/24 scale?

Not sure which Halibrand wheels (6-hole or kidney bean) you are asking about but both style are 1/24 scale.  However I have used both on the AMT 1/25 scale Cobra successfully.

The kidney been wheels in 1/25 scale are included with these two early Cobra kits . I don't believe any Cobra kits after these had them .
