absmiami Posted March 14, 2022 Author Posted March 14, 2022 But i did notice that the base of the chassis casting needed a little more work - some sanding and CA glue and another coat of silver - Tamiya acryl lacquer …
absmiami Posted March 14, 2022 Author Posted March 14, 2022 And while the paint is drying - not long - this paint can be handled after thirty minutes - i added some paint hi-lites to the engine bolts - there are over 100 - on the engine casting - used some Tamiya light gun metal - topped with a drop of Molotow bright silver -

charlie8575 Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 This is absolutely incredible. I don't know how it escaped my notice. Charlie Larkin
absmiami Posted March 14, 2022 Author Posted March 14, 2022 thank you Mr L probably the reason that you hadnt noticed this is that the project was dorment for over a year whilst I chased down some Cooper and Lotus related rabbit holes ...
absmiami Posted March 15, 2022 Author Posted March 15, 2022 so the water pump is hidden below the magnetos and not very visible in pictutes - when im stuck for information an a pre-war GP engine - my go-to is this great old book .. 1
absmiami Posted March 15, 2022 Author Posted March 15, 2022 The first picture is a section of the great cutaway drawing of the engine for the 1927 Delage - the engine is a straight 8 but it was designed by Lory - who refined the 2LCV engine - and it carries many of that engine’s features forward …. The second photo is from a period photo of the 2LCV engine - again fr the Borgeson book - and shows a pump that looks like the later one - although it has to collect water fr 2 pipes rather than one - because the engine is a V12 instead if a straight eight - this will do …. By the way - you’ll notice that the cutaway was done by Max Miller - Miller and Cresswell were responsible for most of the early cutaway drawings of racing cars that we all fawn over …
absmiami Posted March 16, 2022 Author Posted March 16, 2022 Pump housing was filed and turned in a lathe at slow speed using Evergreen plastic …
absmiami Posted March 16, 2022 Author Posted March 16, 2022 Water pipes - using solder - need the pipes to be pliable …. But this was a fail so to plan B …
absmiami Posted March 16, 2022 Author Posted March 16, 2022 So here’s Plan B - which uses individual lengths of solder - which will attach to the pump housing a little like the one to one …. But solder does not like glue - using CA - and i need to use a little xtra and limit handling after glueing …
absmiami Posted March 16, 2022 Author Posted March 16, 2022 Next - the sump, the magnetoes, and/or mosquitoes - ….. and finally some spark plugs !
Chris Smith Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 That’s one impressive engine! I like how you are doing the water pump and lines
absmiami Posted March 18, 2022 Author Posted March 18, 2022 FOR OUR INTREPID BOARD MEMBERS …. once youre done on saturday with you board maintenance- please slide this thread over to the other racing thread … gracias …
absmiami Posted March 23, 2022 Author Posted March 23, 2022 The sp plugs wires clip to the tip of the plugs at right angles - per the engine bay photos way back in page 1 - so to get a secure atrachment i made some plugs fr .024 alu tubes- w an RB Motion nut - so i can secure the plug wires with a rivet that slides into these “plugs” - problem is - they don’t really look like spark plugs …
absmiami Posted March 23, 2022 Author Posted March 23, 2022 So the fix - this is optivisor stuff - was to wind some .08 wire and clip off a small peice To slip onto each plug - I’m sacrificing scale accuracy - but now these things look like spark plugs … 1
absmiami Posted March 23, 2022 Author Posted March 23, 2022 Now the assembly - which requires feeding the plug wires through looms made fr -evergreen tube and rod …

It adds some nice "depth" to the castings.

For years, I used Pactra International Colors IJN Red. It finally went bad about five years ago, or so. Now, I'm using a Humbrol color that is very similar. I don't recall the number, off the top of my head! Not all that surprising, given the rate at which I have attempted, and succeeded at, killing brain cells!
