Straightliner:  how’s this ??      The grill pattern is doubled photo-etch pattern from an acustion sheet that I’ve had for years - just right for pre war grand prix machines - their stuff is no longer made (i think)  but this pattern has also been produced by some other photo etch sellers …

Oh dear.  Page 13. ….

bugatti:  Pico is a sucker for anything French, old, and obscure - as am I - as for the Mullin collection Delage - my next Delage build will be a ‘27 Delage straight eight GP - starting with the white metal Finecast kit - there are 4/5 survivors - this one gracing the Rev’s Collection in Naples …. Actually its one of the early additions to what was once known as the Collier  collection…

bugatti part II:

assume you’ve seen the ERA scale drawings that are floating around the ‘net …

and there is still available a rather nice curbside wh metal kit by the same English kit makers that produce the Delage ‘27 kit …. Which begs for a nice scratchbuilt supercharged engine …

Bugatti part III:

The Delage has a panel at the front of the frame that has a machine turned finish - this is my next problem - ive applied a panel of bare metal foil - ive got some old stock that i think/hope has enough adhesive - its on and im going to experiment with some rubber burs to see if i can leave rows of machine turned swirls …

I wish you success, in this pursuit! While I have had some success at creating it, I haven't found a way that I have fallen in love with, by any means!

Andrew, thanks for your multiple replies.

So far I have not looked for any ERA plans on the web, but thanks for letting me know they are available.

Do you happen to know the site they are on?

I’ve applied some engine turned patterns with a rubber “bur” chucked into my Foredom … worked sort of -  without the abilty to tape a “guide” to the surface of this panel - the swirl pattern wanders around - it should appear as nice neat rows - like a field of crops viewed from the air - didnt get this look - but I’ll seal it and apply a clear blue finish … onward …

I bought an inexpensive XY table for my Dremel Workstation, and clamped the work to that. I don't recall what I used as an abrasive, though. It may have been the erasers that came with the power eraser I'd bought, earlier, in the same pursuit. I intend to try Scott Colmer's use of cloth-backed polishing sheet(s) in ultra-fine grits (1200+), mounted to small dowels, or perhaps aluminum or brass rod. I would think that light pressure would be preferable, no matter which shaft is used. So far, every method I've experimented with has been a complete pain in the anus, and results were hit-and-miss.

Your method - or Colmer’s - are great for a flat surface peice of aluminum that you then place onto the model - when i apply this finish to the metal body work i can’t use a fixed tool attached to a mill or a work station - but ill use a hand peice and some sort of guide taped to the surface of the body-

meantime - ive air brushed a mix of clear and transparent blue to this front panel - not sure how well it shows on a photo - all of this car’s bodywork had this unique blue varnished finish -
