Sioux falls SD,  no markdown kits. This HL is brand new and bigger then the last old one... I guess they need the money to pay for the move.

Did a little reconnaissance at the Libertyville, IL HL this afternoon:

$7.50 each (one each in stock unless noted)

  • '69 Barracuda
  • '75 Vette
  • AMT '64 Impala
  • Beetle Bus

$6.75:

  • '16 Vette

$12.50:

  • AMT Aero Chief (two in stock)

Happy hunting!

(Went to Deerfield the other day and the bargains were pretty well gone.)

Went to HL today for a can of paint. Saw the 57 gasser on the top shelf but not marked down. Saw it the other day but didn't do anything about it. Today I asked the employee who opened the paint case if it had been overlooked. He said yes and marked it down to $5.99 for me. Already had one but couldn't pass it up at that price. Already going to build the gasser and I think the other will be a stock panel wagon. Ramcharger was still there and I started to get it but doesn't really interest me. All fire trucks were gone. Can't wait to see what fills the empty slots.

I'm guessing that some of the clearance kits will be on eBay this coming week at twice their discounted price.

Price tag still there, don't care. "RARE 6 classic car Model kits."

Yup, remove the clearance sticker, leave the original sticker and hope the buyer isn't aware of what's going on. Most of those kits can be found on HL website for 40% off in their clearance section. Not as good as of a deal if you were able to get them at the store, but still a decent price!

I got the $12.50 Aero Chief Last Monday. Got the last '57 Gasser too. My HL was all out of clearance kits when I left. May be more there now. I don't know. May stop by tonight and see.

I checked his "Other Items."  Not a model person, most of his stuff is marine/boating items.  If you don't want the bundle, he's offering the same six kits individually, at $30 each.  He also has the 1/8 scale Mann Honda Road Racer for $40, also from Hobby Lobby.   Oh well, at least his shipping is free.  I still wouldn't buy from anybody pulling this trick.

I just went to Hobby Lobby in Anderson, SC.  Zero kits on clearance.  Looked like they did a re-set, most kit slots were filled. And last time I was there, they only had 1 Revell '66 Suburban, today they had several.  Hardly any new kits either, except the two Tom McKewen dragsters.  I thought briefly about picking up a Polar Lights BTTF DeLorean, until I saw the $32.99 sticker on it and got shocked.

Just picked up some glues and a pack of Testors Assorted Spray Can Tips.

I have no problem with anyone purchasing kits and reselling them for a profit. It's the "RARE" statement which is dishonest, for lack of using words which wouldn't pass the automatic censor. If someone thinks they can sell a turd of a kit for $30 which didn't sell for $16 in a store, well...

Looking at the kits which were cleared out, they're the kits which most of us would thought "Why is Round2 reissuing THAT kit!???" when first reissued.

I'm intrigued. Are these replacement nozzles for their standard aerosol spray tips? Do they offer any benefits since they are obviously a different design? Maybe even a better spray pattern like the Tamiya tips, or am I asking too much?

I don't know anything about them myself, just saw them in the store and was also intrigued.  The back of the card shows the 6 tips and describes their spray widths.  The Red tip is the smallest width, 0.5 to 1 inch. The White tip is the largest, 2 to 2.5 inch.

From the back of the card:  "Remove current Testors tip and replace with comfort tip of your choice...Clean tip with a solvent such as mineral spirits or Testors thinner between colors."  The price was $5.99

hobby lobby watch them.  I bought a 49 ford gas man in Oct for my christmas when I opened it the price tag was under the shrink  wrap. also the shrink was stiffer than normal in side all was there but one wheel and tire was put together. I live over one hundred miles from that store.

Which is why I am not heartbroken that I didn't get any of them. The 75 Vette would have been nice for some parts but that is all that I saw worth going for.

Its very humorous, kits that no one really wanted are all of the sudden a hot commodity when the get put on clearance, and all the sudden, I need that kit that now.

It's called "Modelers' logic". Same theory applies to resin and aftermarket items!

I overspent on clearance kits but as someone on SS, my modeling budget is small. Got nothing for sale or trade but kits I wanted and just couldn't afford. Did also pick up a few that I normally wouldn't buy but at clearance price they stretch my modeling dollars. Liked the 75 Vette, but didn't know about the great parts inside. Glad I decided to pick one up.

Completely understandable .

In my case, the '50 Ford was something I'd been on the fence about since I couldn't decide which version to build. The clearance solved that problem quite well! :)

Now to cast up those '55 Dodge rear quarters for the custom, and figure out how to scratchbuild a lowered top for the stock one...

BTW, Deerfield was cleaned out last Friday when I looked.

I went to the Hobby Lobby in Morgan Hill on 3/3/18 and all of the model car kits on clearance were sold out which is unusual for this store.  It takes a while for clearance kits to sell out.  I guess they were priced to sell.

It's kind of like when the Weatherman calls for snow!! Seems like everyone storms the store for bread and milk!.
