Ace-Garageguy Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 One of the most important theoretical physicists in human history is dead, at 76. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-43396008
oldnslow Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Sad , such a brilliant mind confined to a failing body . Rest in Peace
Matt Bacon Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Well, I certainly won't dispute the brilliant mind, but let's give thanks that we had him for _50 years_ more than the doctors thought possible when he was diagnosed. And maybe the failing body is part of what drove the mind to be so brilliant: "Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see, wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don't just give up." RIP Prof. Hawking best, M.
Xingu Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 The bell curve that the world's intelligence has been graded on has taken a big hit. I was a little shocked to learn he was 76. I had thought he was in his early 60's for some reason.
NYLIBUD Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Wow,thats a shocker.That's too bad.He was the 21st century Einstein.A brilliant mind,but in his case,he was trapped in his own body....RIP Prof Hawkings.
Can-Con Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 I'm totally convinced that it was the sheer power of his incredible mind that kept him alive for so long. It's a hell of a disease , My uncle Albert, who was helping me with my 1/1 car was diagnosed with ALS about 1 and 1/2 years ago and it works fast on most people. 3 years from first diagnosis is the norm.
slusher Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 He was a great man and I was unaware he had had ALS for 50 years, that's amazing. May he R.I.P.
