It's been about three years since I finished something. Both parents died, I had to settle their estate, my job went away so I moved 700 miles to hold on to it, and I'm still not in a permanent location, but I found this 32 Ford for $10 and decided to not stop until it was done. I also took a stab at giving it a rusted look.

Rough deal, Dan...glad you were able to find some time to build models, this one turned out nicely. Looks like the MPC kit? Homemade headers, those massive velocity stacks--pretty mean!

It may have been an MPC kit at one time. It was labeled as one of the AMT "Switchers" kits. There were some fit issues along the way and some parts didn't cooperate as much as I'd like, but I was able to make it work!

Thanks for the nice words, everyone. It has been a rough few years, but I'm getting there. Now, on to the next one!

My condolence for your personal loss. Your model turned out great. The Rust effect looks as if someone didn't spray any primer after they did the body work.

This is basically what I did - I laid down the same color Krylon blue that is used on the wheels, dash, and steering wheel. I then sprayed a light coating of Krylon Short Cuts Antique Bronze over that. I laid on some Krylon Flat Clear and it had the unexpected bonus effect of creating a somewhat cracked look in spots, probably because I deliberately put a heavier coat on. I let it dry for a week or so and then all I did was take Testor's CreateFX Rust #1 and Rust #2 enamel stains and started randomly applying it, using the side of a wide brush to create the streaking effect. I was just winging it and hoping for the best! When I felt like it looked good, I laid another coat of Krylon flat. It is really flat overall - the pics don't quite convey this.

Next time I want to try the salt trick to get that scattered, exposed rust look. Since the kit only cost me $10, I figured if I completely botched it, I still had a box full of parts that I could eventually use elsewhere.

You are way ahead of the game on weathering, that looks great!  Hope the move to Cincy agrees with you, it's a great town.

I love it here!!

The only version of the Switcher's 32s that I don't have is the roadster.  Can you tell me if this roof is the stock one from the kit?  It strikes me that for anyone wanting to build a 32 Sports coupe, this roof would be a great head start.

Like everyone else said, i really like your subtle, not overdone weathering.  It would look great in a barn scene diorama!

Cheers

Alan, this roof did come from the kit.
