RAT-T Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 HELLO, WHAT COLOR & BRAND SEEMS TO WORK BEST FOR PAINTING TIRES? ALSO, DO YOU CLEAR THEM WITH FLAT OR DULLCOAT? THANKS
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 (edited) If you're painting VINYL or other soft-plastic tires, I recommend one of the flexible paints from the real-car parts store. SEM is one good brand. Edited April 10, 2018 by Ace-Garageguy
afx Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 (edited) There are paint brands that offer "Tire Black". However I mix my own using Tamiya Flat Black and Gray (gloss). I don't have a formula I just mix it till it looks right. These resin tires are painted with my home brew with no clear or dull coat applied. Edited April 10, 2018 by afx
misterNNL Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 I use rattle can flat black on resin tires then a light buffing with a soft cotton cloth produces a very acceptable finish to my eye.
espo Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 On kit tires I use Tamiya Semi Gloss as it gives the appearance of a lightly Armor all'd tire. The Flat Clear also works well. I mask the tire tread to protect the scuffed tread appearance.
RAT-T Posted April 11, 2018 Author Posted April 11, 2018 THANKS FOR TALL HE INFO GUYS, I'LL HAVE TO EXPERIMENT WITH A FEW OF THOSE ITEMS
SfanGoch Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Gunship Gray (FS36118) paint, mixed with a few drops of your choice of flat or semi-gloss black (MM Black Chrome Trim paint works best) imparts a good representation of tire rubber.
89AKurt Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Depends what the subject is. For a junker sitting around a long time, the grayer the better, for a new show car with the Armor-All treatment, almost gloss black. I tried glass bead blasting vinyl tires on a project, no paint, looked great.
RAT-T Posted April 11, 2018 Author Posted April 11, 2018 SUBJECT WILL BE TRADITIONAL HOT ROD, NOT RATTY, OR SHOW, JUST CLEAN
