I actually thought about buying the real thing at some time, back in the days when the Wall came down. Some greedy English entrepreneurs thought they would try asking £10,000 for these as a unique experience to own this Icon of communism. Whether they got anywhere near £10grand I never followed it up. A stand out car in the name of global warming I decided the Lada was a better bet.............but I never bought one of those either I doubt they got £10k then. I was in Potsdam, just outside Berlin in '91-'92 and you pick these things up for nothing, some were just abandoned in car parks. Absolutely awful to drive by western standards, in every respect. I nearly killed myself in my one and only drive in one as I had seriously overestimated the brake performance. They're still an environmental hazard as the Duroplast bodies don't rust or decay and are extremely toxic. The model however is excellent, no Trabi ever looked as good as that!
vintagercr Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 I gotta get going on mine. My daughters fiancé got me one while visiting family in Germany and I still have not started it and that was about 5 years ago.
ATHU Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Cool Trabi!! I've got the Universal (wagon) version in my stash.
Oldmopars Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 I have been wanting to do one of these, this one looks fantastic. Great job! Its too bad this happy looking car represents such an un-happy era for so many people.
Dann Tier Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 Definitely one cool little car with a better life!!.....Well done!!!
High octane Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 I had one of those park next to me at a Concours car show last year and it is an interesting piece of transportation.
