Monty Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Decades ago, I had some Hot Wheels cars in this color and I always thought it would look good on some of my model kits as well, but I've never seen it offered anywhere. Any links etc would be appreciated.
Snake45 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Is Testor Lime Ice in the ballpark? https://www.testors.com/product-catalog/testors-brands/testors/lacquer-paint/lacquer-sprays

It seems to have a candy (transparent) appearance.
High octane Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I've used Testors Lime Ice before and it has NO transparent appearance.
High octane Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 For an anti-freeze appearance I would add yellow and clear to a lime green until I got what I was lookin' for.
Bainford Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Is there anything here that would work http://alclad2.com/finishes/candy/ . Maybe a mixing of green and yellow.
Can-Con Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I just took some Metalcast transparent yellow and added some of thier transparent green until I got a color I liked. Sprayed it over pearl white and cleared with Tamiya clear acrylic in the little bottles. Be aware though, for some reason the Metalcast yellow smells like cat pee.

It looks a little like cat pee. No offense! The model looks great! Steve

Snake45 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Check out nail polishes at Walmart or Sally's. Just about any crazy color you can think of, somebody's made a nail polish of it. (Except, for some reason, '68 Pontiac Verdoro Green.)

If I could paint as well as you, the smell would be my last concern. I hadn't considered anything from the Metalcast line as I know very little about their products, although it's obvious they worked well for you. Thanks for the idea!
Phirewriter Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 If you airbrush your finishes you could go this route: https://www.redlineshop.com/shop/spectra-flame-paint/spectraflame-paint-anti-freeze/ I've used their paint with excellent results on my Hot Wheels restorations.
Art Anderson Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 If you are trying to replicate the paint colors of those very early Hot Wheels cars, bear in mind, that Mattel had the diecast bodies plated, then sprayed with transparent colors (a/k/a Candy Colors). In order to replicate that would be to have the bodies, hoods, and any other "sheet metal" panels which would be the body color, chromed, then use candy colors to get the effect of the actual Hot Wheels cars.
